[RM2K] HERO GOES TO 0 HP AFTER MOCK BATTLE

I am having a problem figuring out how to make it so after a fight even my hero's party doesn't go to 0 hp. I don't want to fully heal them but I can't add hp to them after the battle. When I go to increase hp +1 they just die instantly after the battle. It's bad for them to be at 0 HP after a battle they are allowed to lose because they will die instantly in the next encounter. Any help is appreciated and sorry if there is already a thread or tutorial about this I don't know of.
1. Switch Death from Persists to Ends after battle. Trust me, even if you have revival items, this becomes a pain in the butt. Also, if you want to make a mock battle, the best way to do this is to have the "attacks" set up with normal animations, but instead of dealing damage, tie these to status. Make this remove after 1 turn, 100% and make a Turn 1x event that as a common event checks for this status. If characters have it, Change Hero HP but keep unchecked that HP reduction can kill. Attacks will now deal all but 1 HP, and you can just set it to End Battle or flee or something if everyone is at 1 HP.
2. Certain stuff is keyed to gameover, and will automatically check for it when that happens. This is why as a general rule, having Death end automatically is a good idea. If not, you have to remove death, and then heal hp. Otherwise, you will be checking for death while characters are still technically dead.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

This is a thing with RM2K. If the entire party's HP is 0, game over. Your situation is an obvious example of why this is a problem; a far more obnoxious example is that any time you remove a character from the party you have to revive all dead characters first. If the player has three of their four party members dead, and you remove the fourth one and replace it with someone else, the player will very briefly have nothing but three dead characters so they will get a game over in the middle of your cut scene or your party selection screen or whatever.

There is some way to get this bullshit to not happen, but damned if I could ever figure out how. It might be based on something weird like what version of RM2K you're using.

I assume bulmabriefs's first suggestion of making death not persist between battles isn't a good option for you; you probably only want the player to survive in one particular mock battle, not return to 1 HP after battle all the time. In that case, the best option is to make the enemy's final skill in the mock battle be a battle event that shows a battle animation over the hero and then reduces their HP to 1. You can make the enemy skill turn on a switch that calls the battle event.
Thanks I can always just use the full recovery method after the fight. It just doesn't seem too realistic but thanks for all your thoughts and ideas.
