My personal favorite is Unity, which is capable of porting easily to nearly any device available and definitely capable of making commercial-level games. Plus, C# is a very commonly-used language and could definitely be useful in future jobs and whatnot. Unreal Engine isn't a bad option either.

My tutorial (that kentona linked) is totally designed for Unity beginners! I think it'll get you familiar with the program really quick and then it'll point you in the right direction for more tutorials to get your hands dirty with. There's also a little collection of helpful reference sites at the bottom!
