I knew from the title this would be a piano thread.
this disgusts me deeply.
Both my parents are tattooists. I've seen all kinds of weird shit being spewn from people's mouths, but this is something genuinely surprising.
I don't see any sense in such a verdict, unless she put tats on her tits. *giggles*

Yeah, unless the ink got into her bloodstream and in turn made her breast milk toxic, I can't really see the problem. I saw some things about them fearing she might prove to be HIV positive due to the needle, but that's neither here nor there.
This is exceptionally stupid because we have laws about how businesses are supposed to be run, especially ones that use needles - and from the sounds of it she got her tattoo from a reputable place of business. What bullshit. This is her ex trying to make her out to be a bad mother so that he can take more custody of the baby... who needs it's mother during the first year or so of it's life more than its father.

(By which I mean that it's important for the father to bond with the baby, yes, but the mother is the key part of a baby developing well during that time period. There are some shit mothers out there - not always by their own fault - but this early in a childs' development a mother is especially necessary.)

We don't force smoking mothers to stop breast feeding, or ones who drink. No, really, we don't. So this is ridiculous. Not to mention it'll set a precedent.
Discrimination against people with tattoos isn't as bad as it was before, but it's still pretty nerve wracking.

You better get over it quick, because we're not going anywhere.
Tattoos, to me, are so hot. People need to be more open-minded towards them.

Dumb ban.

In America we do stop smokers and drinkers IF they do so to a level that is clearly toxic to the child. That being said they checked that shit out carefully. It's not about the mother so much as it is the toxicity of her milk and the child being harmed from it and even then courts will simply appoint the child to be fed either formula or by a paid and background checked woman. Options are revealed in these circumstances since it's about child safety not taking custody of a child from a mother. Especially since America made those two drugs LEGAL to consume.

My sister fought for her EX's kids and his first wife said "You're taking away my money!". Yes her kids were being taken away and THAT was what she said. Yet this woman is being harassed for custody over trivial shit like this when my sister was fighting for kids who were being abused. This is fucking stupid. Is the tattoo IN her tits or something? I mean seriously how the hell is having ink sealed into your SKIN going to impact the milk you produce? How come they can come to THIS judgement but not a judgement on kids like my sisters who had to wear dirty clothes, live on taco bell once a week, and get abused by a drug addicted mother and her shit stain of a family?

The only precedent this sets is that Australia is trying to be like the United States. It's only a matter of time before you get your very own Kent Hovind like bastard running around.
The tattoo was on her foot. Even if it had been an extensive piece of work, it shouldn't have messed with her milk. The issue they tried to present was that because she'd had 'needles', there was a chance for some sort of 'disease' to be spread to the child, however in Australia tattoo businesses are required by law to uphold certain standards of cleanliness - which includes sterilising needles before and after use, if not out-right throwing away used ones. And since she got her tattoo from such a business there is very, very, very low chance of her contracting any kinds of diseases.

It's a power-play by her husband in order to get the baby more often by forcing it to be weaned from the mother (far too early).
