CloseIn my game, the battling sprites will be facing up. I'm spriting battlers in battle stances facing up, but it's tricky. Do you guys know of any games in which battlers are facing up, so I can use their poses as references? Something like Fantasy Star, except I need full bodies and in battle poses.

I think it looks ok, but her left arm looks strange, but I'm not sure how it should be!

I'm far from being an expert on graphics, but in my opinion the movement of her legs looks a little too extreme. I think it would look more natural if she would bend her knees more towards the front (in the direction she's facing) and less to the side.
Other than that, it's pretty nice, I think.
Regarding games that use these kinds of animated sprites in battle, only In Search of Immortality comes to my mind immediately. I'm not sure how helpful that would be for you, though, since it uses the chibi-like style of VX Ace characters. But it might still be worth taking a look at the character animations shown when using certain skills.

There's 7th Saga but the player character sprites didn't have a lot of animation to them. Here's a quick video that gets into a battle quickly. Grab a rom and play for a bit to see if it helps any, you can choose any of the playable characters to start with and it takes seconds to get to where you can fight enemies from the game start with an emulator's fast forward.

You could also have a look at the sprite sheets for Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku. although the sprites are smaller than your sample.
