I haven't been using the CEV (Critical Evasion) Ex-Parameter in VX Ace, and I wanted to get a feel for how it works. Like, is it exactly measurable to critical rate? If Character A has a Crit rate of 5%, and the target has a CEV of 5%, do they cancel each other out and mean that Character A can't score a critical on the target?

Thanks ^_^
Character A will have a 4,75% chance of scoring a critical hit. 5% CEV means 5% of all critical hits against you will be downgraded into non criticals. It's easy to change how it works though.

Oh, neat! Thanks! ^_^ I just wanted to make sure I knew how it works. Now I do :D

An overall critical rate of 4.75%? I figured critical evasion would make it so that it would be, in the case of 5% critical rate versus 5% critical evasion to work out to be an overall critical rate of 0.25% (5% of 5%).

But, of course, I could be utterly wrong.

*Day-later edit: Annnnd, yeah, this has to be wrong. With this logic, a 100% crit evasion would do nothing, while a 0% crit evasion would cause the overall rate to be 0%? Yeah, no.

STUPID INVERSE PERCENTAGES!
Critical hit chance = User's CRI * (1-Target's CEV)

If both are 5, this calculates as follows:

0,05 * (1-0,05) = 0,05 * 0,95 = 0,0475 = 4,75%

Both being 20 is this:

0,2 * (1-0,2) = 0,2 * 0,8 = 0,16 = 16 %

Technically, it runs on two RNG rolls - first, it is checked if the attack is critical. Then, the game rolls a crit evasion check based on the CEV chance - if this succeeds, the attack isn't critical instead.
