FF12 REMAKE. IT'S A... THING?
Posts
Hey hey awesome! I hope it's the zodiac job system version I'd they're just doing a remaster. I liked 12 a lot, van and Penelo aside.

i'd eat yasumi matsuno's ass for a full no shit remake of ff12
Let's kickstart it. "MOG x Matsuno's Ass."
Honestly, it really doesn't need a remake. Just release it in HD with the ZJS and achieves, and I'd gladly pay full price again for it (We already own the original and the ZJS version {with a burnt copy to play it in english}). If you look for it online, there are emulated versions running in HD, and it still looks as beautiful. The nice thing about later PS2 games was that the models themselves were clean and beautiful, the system just couldn't do them justice.

I really wish they'd change things to make a liiiiiittle more sense (like having Ashe not stick out like a sore thumb based on her clothing choices when she's supposed to be trying to hide... and the majority of the story.)
But the rest of the game was pretty good.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

It's just an HD remaster, not a remake.

Also the zodiac job system was terrible. It was just, like, here are twelve license boards, you get to blindly pick one of them for each of your characters at level 1 without knowing what it does, and then you're stuck with it for the rest of the game. There were other aspects of that version of the game that were actual improvements over vanilla FF12, but the job system was not one of them. I would like it if the remastered FF12 let you pick which version of the game to play.

The PAL version removed the damage cap - it made a certain boss far more bearable as he was made weak to gravity on top of that.

Yeah they fixed some other things too. Most of it the changes were great. It's just the job system that I'd want the ability to turn off, honestly.

It was a lot better than the standard License Board.
'lol everyone can do everything'
Yeah definitely, adding some differentiation between characters was very much welcome. It was a lot lot better. But I think it actually asks you if you want to use the job system in the beginning of the game. Kind of like the Expert Sphere Grid.
and yeah, FFXII is far from needing a remake, but i got even more reasons to have a ps4 now:
FFX
FFX-2
FFXII
Lightning Saga on the ps4 (I think)
FFXV
FF Type-0
Persona 5
Disgaea 5
Star Ocean 5
Exist Archive
and so many other fabulous games <3

I very highly doubt SE has the original VA masters (or any for any ff12 asset) and any remaster will pull the assets from the finished game or recreate them from scratch. Kinda like Kingdoms Hearts HD. Hope you like the tin can!
I won't mind fighting Yiazmat and Hell Wyrm in HD. I just wish they would cut out Vaan and Penelo completely. ><
i don't get all the exxagerated vaan and penelo hate
they're not exactly great characters but they're still characters and cutting them out would be like cutting Cait Sith out of FFVII just because the fans say he doesn't make sense
It's part of the game, come on

Final Fantasy Xii already looks great. Does it really need a remake?
I guess including that zodiac job system thing would be good but I don't know if thats enough to justify a remake.
I still have my PS2 plugged in if I want to replay it or FFX which also didn't need a remake in my opinion.

Then the Dawn Shard never gets out of the Rabanastre Galtean Palace, Ashe is executed after getting captured trying to crash Vayne's party, and the game never happens.
I don't get how people can claim that Vaan and Penelo don't do anything. I guess people just all collectively skipped all of the cutscenes?
author=LouisCyphreThen cut Vaan out. He's not a necessity and Penelo was a lot more fun (and developed) as a character. She made the initial contact with Balthier, she had the reason to be in the Palace, she's the one who really kick-started the whole thing. People seem to ignore that point - Vaan is completely redundant.author=LuchinoThen the Dawn Shard never gets out of the Rabanastre Galtean Palace, Ashe is executed after getting captured trying to crash Vayne's party, and the game never happens.

Penelo is a more interesting character because she actually had ties to people inside the city and out on the Plains, and a reason to care. Vaan is just slap-dash-added in. He doesn't care about anything or anyone. He doesn't seem to have made any connections aside from Penelo during his whole life in the city. It's almost as though they got halfway through creating her character, then said "No, we can't have a female as the avatar. Let's add Tidus 2.0 and... make him Penelo's childhood friend who wants to be a pirate. There we go, no one will notice!"
I fucking noticed. Hell, if one of them did an interview and said that Vaan was originally meant to be an NPC who you'd touch base with now and again, and Penelo the original avatar for the player, I'd believe it whole-heartedly.

Balthier was introduced during Vayne's fete, while Vaan is rummaging around in the vault grabbing the too-be-revealed Dawn Shard, actually. Vaan meets him first. He also has significant development over the game's run--did you forget the scene in Ozmone Plain with the Garif (??) where he waxes philosophical with Ashe about how dreams aren't what they're cracked up to be? And then she starts realizing how maybe she doesn't need WMDs to restore Dalmasca after all? Vaan's significant; just in the understated writing typical of an Ivalice-set game.

Actually, the original main character was Basch. They were worried no one would by the game if the main character was too gruff and "Western" masculine.
