It's been a while since I let my last art thread wither and die quietly in the dark of the Creative Corner, so now that I'm doing a lot more art a lot more often, I'm gonna take a crack at another art thread.

Since the first post can't just be "What I did today", here's a dump of recent pieces:

Pixel Art:

Digital Art:

I'm hoping having a thread again can spur me to make even more art than I'm doing right now!

You can follow me on Twitter if you want WIP screenshots of my art and don't mind listening to my occasional rambling.
FREYA... YES... GOOD....
Man I'm just real keen on your pixel art. It is ace. Your digital stuff's real nice, too. <W<

Keep up the rad work~

Thanks! I obviously still have so much to learn with pixels, but I feel like recently there's been a much more personally noticeable increase in my ability.

As for today, I was out on the town for most of it so I only did some rescaling/refitting of assets for VX Ace and started a little iconset.

I love every single one of these pieces of art. I knew your pixel art was great, but you digital work is <3. Reminds me of those 90s cartoons, which is a good thing for me.

That's a good thing for me as well! Love 90s cartoons, especially Rupert and the old Genndy Tartakovsky stuff.

Did a few quick sketches of Freya today to try and break out of not doing any digital art for a while:

Before going on to make a more finished quality thing:

Haven't done any pixels thus far today- if I do then they'll probably be posted tomorrow.

Those icons are beautiful.

Thanks. I was pretty pleased with how they came out. I personally think they look better in a bit lower rez, but I was too lazy to export a decent sized one.

Mocked up a court today to test out a colour palette I've been working on:

Also, did a little mint candy for Pixel Dailies:

I really like your pixel art.

Thanks.

Didn't update last night because I was watching a movie/drinking with my room mate. Here's some stuff I did today:

Some random sketching, ideas for characters in an RPG concept:

Mimicking/Re-Spriting the REFMAP so it has furry characters:

Unfortunately I can't show most of my daily work, since it's for my team's McBacon jam entry!

Some stuff I've done for the McBacon Jam entry. The sprites are Charblar's work.

I recognize those sprites. I can't put my finger on it though where from though.
I like the mouse characters looking good!

Thanks. I was pretty pleased with how it came out. Now I kind of want a funky looking blue toaster for my own kitchen.

Thanks!

I made this today for an RPG concept I've been pretty invested with recently. Super please with how it turned out, probably the best map I've ever made thus far:

McBacon WIPs:

I've been working on this world map for like 3 days now. I only just FINALLY finished doing the colour flats. Fuck. This one is 24 x 16 inches, in comparison to the one in the previous post, which is 4 x 3 inches:

What's with the tree blocks? All the other stuff looks beautiful (except that green-backed guy) and then this weirdness.

They're just test maps/sprites. There was no point in finishing them up cause I'm not doing the mapping or the sprites for our McBacon Jam entry. All I needed to do was demonstrate how all the pieces worked.

EDIT:

Tested out Jo's 16x16 sprite template today. It works perfectly for my needs, so I'll be using it. I also tried to practise up a bit on making FF5 styled tiles, and I think the results are good:

Also, more Bacon stuff:

Stand back. Artist at work. I paint with enthusiasm if not with talent.

Regarding your OP, those are very nice night landscapes.
I've always wondered how to go about pixelling brick walls like that. Like, how do you organize them so you delete the linework in certain spaces without making it look odd?

Thanks. I do brick textures by conforming the brick lines onto a (in this case) 16x16 grid on a different layer, then erase the outsides of the building and any spots where I don't want bricks. I usually try to place the bricks in such a way that the textured areas break away naturally and don't leave large, flat spaces with no detail. Then I just do some quick and simple dithering along the edges and add some shape the corners of the bricks to round some off.

Some recent pieces of art:

Some 16x16 tile work, in a cartoonish style and a more down to earth one. Disclaimer: The sprites in the second image were made using a template by JosephSeraph.

Some portrait work- an example of a digital portrait, and it's conversion to pixel art, complete with added emotions.
Awesome stuff. That first Freya pixel is absolutely beautiful. The facesets are really cool too.
