As i was writing a summary of a game i want to make i found myself in need of background noise and i remembered my love for old music.
Post a youtube track of some of your favorite musical records from back when things were not total shit like today's music is. Reasons for posting said compositions are encouraged but entirely optional.
I'll begin with Guilty, by Al Bowlly
I like this song because it doesn't use many instruments.
The lyrics were considered explicit by the 30's standards, even though they may sound pretty mild now.
I specially love male singers that really do tonalize their voices to accomodate a song instead of musing or reciting more than they actually sing.

One of my favorite '40s songs. Not my favorite version of this song, but a decent version (best one I could find on youtube).
I prefer the 1989 Uncle Tupelo demo version form their anthology, although the original 1952 version is really good too. Songs like this had a huge influence on me growing up. All I had to listen to (this was the early nineties, no internet) was my father's music collection. It is split between things like this, classic rock like pink floyd and led zeppelin, and metal (motorhead, megadeth, metallica). Somehow all I ended up hearing was '50s and '60s folk and '90s metal, missing out on anything in between.
I don't want to set the world on fire~
I just want to start a flame in your heart~
I know it's brought to a large audience via Fallout 3, but the song is still great.
Other than that, there's Powerhouse from the Raymond Scott Quintett.
(related to song kinda)

How old do you fucks even think I am?
Well here's one, not sure if it's early enough but I'd say it is.
Okay it's too early! 1909 geez!
Welp that's whatchu get!

My listening only goes as far back as Frank Sinatra, which I guess did start his career sometime around 30-40. Unless you count classic music, which is a bit too far back I guess.
John Fred is the fucking shit.
He's somewhat underground compared to other 50's artists at the time, but he's seriously worth a listen.

This one sounds really hot on the piano.
The tack rail is used very well in this one.
This isn't so much about Maple Leaf Rag but to show Joanne Castle playing.
@JS
That's a good one, been a while since I heard it.
I remeber it being in a movie that I liked... Can't remember the name of it though.

Back to the Future, maybe? Or part II? Grease 2? Philadelphia? Uncle Buck? Halloween II, Halloween H20, See Spot Run...going to be tough to narrow this down.
Neither, actually. I did some searching, and I believe I remember it from Mr. Nobody. It seems to have been in quite a few movies. It's a classic, so I guess it's not surprising.
Wow alterego, plenty of love for Betty Boop songs.
I can't lie and say i didn't fantasize with that woman's voice sometimes, but i don't think i'd stand her reading a long book to me.
And yeah the sandman song has been used many times before.
Plenty of authors i hadn't heard of though, so that's nice.
I got another person i'd like to make note of and that's Django Reinhardt.
I thought Jimmy Hendrix's guitar game was hot until i heard this man do his thing.
