[SMBX] SMBX VS SUPER MARIO MAKER

I was wondering for those of you who are familiar with SMBX & how it works, what are your thoughts about the new Super Mario Maker? Do you think it has more potential than SMBX or is SMBX better for level design? And what do you think about Nintendo's Copyright Witch Hunt against Let's Plays? http://gamasutra.com/view/news/192279/Nintendo_cracks_down_on_fanmade_videos.php
Nintendo only disallows collecting revenue from Youtube partnership with Let's Play videos, as you're directly making money off of their IPs.

Super Mario Maker has fewer elements, but allows you to mix them up in many unique ways and also have means to share them online (though you have to beat your own level to upload it).
so far as I can tell, there are only a couple things that disappoint me with SMM vs SMBX:

1) the apparent lack of an ability to make a package of levels/cohesive game. SMM seems limited to making and sharing individual levels. I could be mistaken though.

2) the inability to mix styles or import new styles

3) A lot of missing powerups, esp. from SMB3

4) lack of customization for enemies like you can do in SMBX

but I am super psyched about SMM for some things that it does that SMBX doesn't:

1) Way more enemies and tools and options! And some powerups that are missing from SMBX (like the Feather)

2) A bunch of cool styles and more cohesive aesthetic, too

3) The title screen reminiscent of Mario Paint

4) all and all just a more polished engine and interface

5) amiibos

There does seem to be a mention of 'Players can even create up to 30 worlds, which are set up like in Super Mario Bros., with four courses per world. ' but I don't know what that entails, exactly.
Nah instead they'll make huge fuckoff mazes or stages that require a hidden powerup to clear instead (or be legit insane enough to make a super hard or troll level and still beat it)

A structured game in the classic setup appears to be a go.

This is an important feature.

This cannot be stressed enough.

This is a built in feature by Nintendo, not a fan made world, so it doesn't mean that we will be able to set things up like this.
Mario Maker for Wii U officially comes out next week.

The main limitations I've seen of SMM compared to SMBX (which I admit I haven't used a lot):
- Limits on stage size and number of subscreens. Each level is only a main screen and a subscreen, each being limited to 2 screens tall and 10 screens wide.
- No level checkpoints.
- No slopes. I'm not sure how many other block types are missing.
- Can only group single, 4-level worlds? (I'm not sure about this one) And also, no overworld map.
- No options for fancy things like NPCs and cutscenes and such.
- Only Mario is playable. (The Amiibo costumes don't affect the control)
Then there's the small details about which enemies and power-ups and such are in each of them, but I can't remember any of that at the moment.

The main advantage over SMBX, however, seems to be a better UI. The menus for blocks and such expand and collapse, making it easier to focus on the level. You can also highlight blocks or groups of blocks to move and resize them. Level testing seems quicker and easier, too, and you can "co-op" the process, as someone with a Wiimote can control Mario instead.
That, and the easier online sharing component. (Maybe?)
(Oh, and they have the flagpole by default aka THE BEST LEVEL ENDER)

I'm personally looking forward to this mostly as something to do with my sister, and just kinda have some casual fun with level design. SMBX will still be better for a serious project.
I was real excited for it at first, but then I think about the other games I want like Xenoblade and Mario Tennis. This game would be a waste of money cause once I get those games I'd never want to Mario Make again. I'm not used to paying full price for games. Those 3 games would be quite close to 300$ and that is fucked up.

Some of the limitations with SMM are kind of expected, like the limited packaging options and whatnot. All in all, I think both engines are about on the same level in terms of pros and cons, but being able to customize the visuals and fully package a complete game is the best thing about SMBX.
wait. no slopes? really? And limited level height? And only 1 subscreen? How am I going to recreate all those cool levels from world 7 in SMB3?
Outside of SMB1, I don't think you'll be able to recreate ANY existing Mario levels, unless there's some major update or DLC planned.
They didn't even include a SMB2 (US) theme in it!
