Whenever I run anything in RM2K, something is constantly pressing "down" on my keyboard it seems. I do not have this problem in other any application.

Try running a paralell process with a "Key input processing" command that only registers down. Make an auto event trigger to when that varible is (I think down is 4) and see if that starts the event.
This might better help determine your problem, but probably not fix it.

try turning off/on numlock and see if it persists. Could be sticky numpad2 key, or try another keyboard to rule out hardware issues.

Also, have you toyed with your common event database? If you made anything in there "Parallel Process" you might want to check those because they can mess around with the game quite a bit.
