PLASTIC WASTE

I was just watching some videos where a British guy was trying American candy and vice versa. One of the American candies was some old timey thing I'd never seen before. It's liquid candy that came in both wax tubes and wax bottles.
And I just thought to myself why are we using plastic bottles for water and soda and etc. Which are bad for the environment when we could put stuff in wax bottles. Pretty sure wax is biodegradable.
Now I mentioned this to my brother he told me that things are like that because of how powerful the plastic industry is. And I'm sure he's right but still that makes me mad we got alternatives to plastic that we could use.
And while I'm on the subject what happened to glass bottles? Seems like only alcohol gets to be in glass these days what's up with that?
I don't know I'm not claiming to have all the answers I just felt like ranting. Feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Wax would probably easily get deformed. I don't think it's as easy to get the amount of wax that it would require, either.
Glass bottles are worse than plastic because they are heavy and breaks easily.
There's no big conspiracy, it's just that plastic bottles is the best option.

Yeah plastic is recyclable but unfortunately a lot of people don't recycle.
I didn't know they are trying to make biodegradable plastic, that's good.
As far as scientific options go, I've seen a video where people were drinking from an edible bottle. It loos kinds like an orb. Those who ate this edible bottle said it tasted nasty though so I guess they got to work on it still. Plus it looks really flimsy.
Another problem in my mind with the edible bottle is it'll gather germs from being placed on stuff. So even though it looked like a neat experiment it looks far from ready to be used.

We do have biodegradable plastic here. It's made from synthesized plant fibre. Either abaka or buko, I'm not sure. In terms of durability and cost of production, it is about at par as usual plastics used today. It has yet to be safe for use in food handling though. But it's being used for making chairs, tables, and stuff.

Yes, biodegradable plastic exists. It is a thing. It is also extremely cheap meaning that major companies have no excuse not to be using it.

Depending on where you're from probably. I've heard numbers over here that say that we are talking 90+% of plastic bottles are recycled. (because there are moneys to get from them, we are talking 20-40 cents per bottle. That's like 15% of the purchase price!)

These things are amazing. It's like combining Gushers and Chewing Gum.
...If you're okay with chewing on something with no flavor solely for the fact of having something to chew on, anyway.
