So I realised I haven't been contributing a whole lot to The RPG Maker Community At Large (OTHER THAN HELPING WITH SOME KICKASS GAMES but that's not At Large) and I figure I oughta do something about that.
I could just jump in and do some things, but I like narrowing my options first. Thus, I come to you, RMN doodz: What sort of stuff do y'all feel is missing as far as graphical resources are concerned? If something sounds fun, I'll see about filling in that hole. :3

I imagined I would come off as biased, but:
I'm actually surprised that we haven't seen an 8-bit/NES style resource pack yet. The Oldschool Modern comes fairly close, but it seems like a lot of the resource packs are in high-res territory. I'd love to see a low-res pixel art pack of some sort.

Make new tiles in the style of refmap, but with your own touch. In other words; a versatile tileset fitting for an rpg.
I'd like to see some cool battlers as well. Demons, gargoyles, reapers etc. Maybe something lovecraftian?
Old school window skins in the style of NES & SNES would be rad as well.
We can never have enough parallax backgrounds too!

It's probably a boring answer, but ever since the 2k3 days went by there haven't been a lot of system resources like windowskins, character art, battle backgrounds, that sort of thing.

Oi! This is true. Heck, the VX generation probably has the most sparse collection of menu graphics there is.
The most common stuff produced are charset edits, tile edits, and face graphics.
Sooz, you are one of the most kick-ass artists in the community. Anything you think would help the community would be fantastic.
That said, I think VX Ace is a little thin in the facechips and unique (matching) tilesets department. Even the RTP doesn't match up very well, something which has annoyed me to no end.

What if people end up suggesting a wider variety of things than you were initially considering, though? :v
Anyways, I don't actually use RM, but I don't see a lot of realistically proportioned characters, so I guess that's a hole worth filling (ch'yeah buddy), if even possible.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I think we could all use more animated battlers of this one specially-designed format that only works with my game.
The one thing we definitely don't need is more non-animated enemies. There are so many of those, mostly because the format hasn't changed since RM95. Faces are probably in a similar boat - not to mention that I don't think anyone really wants to use a character face that also appears in other people's games, so anything you release publicly will be wasted.

I want more tilesets to work with since VX/Ace/MV has little room for interesting design. Especially in the dungeon department.
More pixels fo' sho'. I'd love to see some pixel attack animations. As is, people are still throwing default or particle stuff alongside 8, 16, or 32 bit stuff when using the newer makers. I'm not exempt from this either, so I'll probably end up making animations for pixel based games myself somewhere down the line, but there can never be too many pixels.
Multiple angles for stuff, I guess? I'd love to see horizontal beds, for one.
It's kinda boring to have an object facing only one direction, cause it gets old rather quickly thanks to repetition.

Tiles beyond Medieval European Town/Kingdom with Green Forest and Brown Cave. I'd love to see more tiles based off of locations like deserts in Arizona and the like? Also arctic, snowy regions, or legit temperate rain forests with pine trees instead of generic deciduous trees.
And yes I second pixel skill animations, but only because that'd be Neat.

I couldn't agree more, even though the 16 bit modern city chip set and battle screens would be wonderful for 2003, I'm never going to tell someone what to do =).

thiiiiiissssssssss. both things.
there are plenty of good-looking tile sets on rmweb but THEY ARE ALL SO BORING. a good tileset needs so much more than is offered, which is why i use the rtp. i like having a variety and not just making Yet Another Damn Cliff With Big Trees like every third game i see on here and rmweb feels like. some break beyond that and do awesome things beyond just That Cliff Map (like Catharsis!), buuuut. yeah.
i'm pumped for more additions to lunarea's(? or was it celiana) Ancient Dungeons pack. i love the base... but guess that it's comprised of ;V
even REFMAP wasn't that exciting and I still preferred the 2k3 rtp to it. when i used it for Visions & Voices, i still used a lot of vx rtp for some variety...

How you feel that contributing games that actually get finished isn't contributing to the community is beyond me but whatever. I suppose it's not important.
Makes a great point as well...

That was why I specified the Community At Large. I'd like to make contributions that are helpful to more than just a couple of people.
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions! I'll probably start out with some windowskins and then maybe move on to a few tilesets.
Hopefully other artists around here can also mine the topic and get inspired to add some resources of their own. :3
This is probably way too niche, as it narrows down from "rpgmaker.net" to "RPG Maker 2003" to "RPG Tsukuru 2003 patched with DynRPG" to "projects eventually using the plugin I'm currently working on", but...I'm making a plugin that will allow Animation2 sprites to be layered on top of each other according to what the heroes have equipped. It would be neat if there were sprites for the armor and helmets available in the item database of a fresh RM2K3 project, sort of a "default RTP" for the plugin.
