Posts

I need help. When I tried to add NPCs(the city is large and so I want there to be NPCs that are going places) all of them moved at the same pace. Also, how would I make cars and stuff move around the map?

You can change the NPC's event speed and frequency to make a variety of walking speeds, or using the highest speeds for cars, etc
If you're going to do that make sure to made wider roads and sidewalks for ease of access around.

You could also try looking into "recycling" events for your move-routes. Like, have one of the NPCs go from one end of the map into a shop (or other such location), and when they "enter" the shop, erase the graphic for a bit, then Move Event Location, and change the graphic to something else, and so on. Such NPCs wouldn't have speaking lines, but, oh well.

I'm not sure if I'm relaying this concept very well, but, I'm 90% sure that there's move-routes like this in the opening section of this game.

Okay, I'll try this now.

Hmm, that doesn't sound like a bad idea......or maybe I can make an NPC walk from one end of the map and then walk somewhere else?
Also, as for audio, would I need to have like talking? Or maybe I could put some NPCs in groups?

I would say no to having them talk or worrying about adding audio for that. They can have text dialogue if you click on them but otherwise adding audio for simple NPCs would take time and be wasteful in my opinion.

I'll concur with InfectionFiles. However, if you feel absolutely compelled to add audio to dialog, try doing what Valkyria Chronicles 2 did, and have short clips.

Nvm I got it.

I meant background audio......Like large groups of people speaking to each other

Like background chatter? That's totally up to you. It can add some depth and immersion in a busy, bustling metropolis setting. Just don't over do it, I suppose

Okay, just one more thing. How would I set move routes, like so the NPCs don't run into walls or anything.

You can set each NPC with a specific move route yourself otherwise there is no easy fix to keep them from bumping into walls. You can use the random setting where they will just wander around on their own, but that doesn't stop them from bumping into walls or anything else.
Your best bet is to set each one yourself and make make a choreography of sorts if you want them to stay on a path.

Okay, thank you
One other way to go about it is to split up the city into multiple maps or districts. It'll give off the same feel as a humongous map full of stuff, while only requiring a portion of the time and effort in making them.

Also, this script would come in handy when making paths for your npcs.

Aaand while I'm not exactly against background chatter, I don't think it appropriate to apply it for the entirety of the city. Maybe do that only in really crowded areas like parks and shop fronts, or better yet, indoors.
