CloseTrust me, horror games aren't underplayed. It's just that there's very few good ones on the site (a lot of them are usually first games or made so pretty they forget to add the horror aspect (hello PM)). That said, the ones that were nominated (bar the actual non-horror ones (lel)) are decent. Blank Dream, for example, is really good. Not exactly scary but hey, I can count on my fingers the number of RM games that have actually scared me before and I've played thousands (literally >.<; ).
Atleast the flock of birds got you, so hey you did get scared while playing it even if it was just once! For the record though, Blank Dream IS very good. If you guys haven't tried it out yet, definitely check it out.

@ Liberty: Yeah, I should've stated this better. It's certainly true that even really poor mansion runners often get thousands of downloads (The Mansion literally had 2500 downloads before nhubi rated it 1 star) but their audience appears comparatively unengaged with the site on the whole, or else we would be seeing more nominations in the actually correct categories. (And perhaps more Blank Dream nominations, given that it's download count is nearly that of AWaF.) Maybe we should consider limiting "Most Horrific" to games with "Horror" tags only, and making this clear in the description.

My complaint would be that this would prevent Grappi from going in (because I wanted to keep the horror elements a surprise to new players), and I'm p. sure there are other games that would work under "most horrific" that wouldn't label themselves horror for other reasons.
I guess I just don't feel like a single year of meh nominations is emblematic of a need to do anything. Maybe if there's a pattern over several years, but it doesn't strike me as more than an unfortunate one-off.
Maybe "Horror" and "Most Horrific" should be two different things then. Obviously change "Most Horrific" to something else that might fit that niche better? Because if a game has horror elements then wouldn't it be considered horror?
What about "Most Traumatic" for games about rape, or abuse, darker elements that might be shocking or eerily trippy.

Yes, I agree. We should also have a separate entry for "Most Frightening Clowns" and maybe just branch off from that into "Most Frightening X" each year which will encourage people to make those types of games that we want to play.

Hey, now there's a download for PotF! Now I don't feel so guilty about it being in the Most Promising Demo category!
I never played or even DOWNLOADED any of the games published in 2015 so i just chose "April was a fool" for absolutely no reason whatsoever every chance i got.
By the time your reading im probably in hell already.
