So, I got a Wacom Intuos Draw for Christmas, and while practicing using it, I made an art! Here is a faceset! Would anybody be interested in more of this kind of art? You know, I like anime as much as the next gamer, but the endless vistas of anime in RPG Maker are just too much.

So, any opinions would be appreciated!

Not bad! You seem to have a lot of pixelly artifacts towards her hair lock that kind of looks odd. Try to also maintain some consistency in your lines, too. It looks like you can't decide whether she has lines on her forehead or not, and the lines emphasizing her cheeks seem to bold compared to everything else.

Do more! I personally like it a lot. It's rough but I favor gritty over anime :)
Two major complaints: it's visually inconsistent, and the face has mixed perspective.

You have pixels for the cheek/jawline, the center of the mouth, the forehead wrinkles and such, but the shading for the cheeks and neck are softly airbrushed.

Also, while the shape of the head and cheeks suggests a 3/4 view, her nose and mouth look like a front view, or close to it. Her mouth especially is almost completely symmetrical, except for the open pose where the opening is to the opposite side of where it needs to be. As for the nose, I feel that from the angle that the head appears at, we really shouldn't be seeing the nostril on the far side, and I think the whole nose itself needs to be pushed to the right some.

Yes, she's reduced in size. It seems the highlights in the hair didn't translate very well in shrinking. As for the lines on the forehead, I only restored them where the eyebrows actually moved up, feeling that they shouldn't be as visible when relaxed. Still, you're right that it makes more visual sense to be consistent. As for the cheek lines that appear with the smile, yeah, I'm going to try to fix that right now.

Thank you! Yeah, I don't believe in making ugly characters unless it's called for but at the same not every interesting person in the world is a perfect fashion model (in fact, my wife was a fashion model, and she happened to think that they're the most uninteresting people you can find). This was just practice, but I was paying attention to certain details, and I wanted her to look like someone you'd meet in the real world. She's far from ugly, but she's also worn out. She has crows feet, stress lines on her mouth and forehead and she has bags under her eyes.

Wait a minute, the stress lines on her mouth disappeared with shrinking...

Cheeks: She's in her 30s, not her 90s! I wasn't trying to draw a hag!
Neck: I completely forgot about detail on the neck.

The nose, I've made a little correction to.

Her mouth especially is almost completely symmetrical, except for the open pose where the opening is to the opposite side of where it needs to be.

Again, this was a symptom of shrinking that I didn't notice, which is easy enough to fix.

Yeah, I always screw up the nose. Looking at anime styles, I notice that I'm not the only person in the world that doesn't like noses.

Anyway, I hope this is better.

Yeah, that's definitely an improvement. The nose still needs to be shifted to the right, though. Look at the bridge, especially. It's dead center between here eyes, but it should be closer to the far eye on the right.

Haha, that's not what I meant! I mean that the outline of the face (and wrinkles) have basically zero anti-aliasing like NES pixel art, which clashes with the photoshop airbrush shading. There are some other spots like this, like the inside ends up her eyebrows on the bottom-left three faces, or center line/opening for the mouth.

"Restored"? So, did you make a drawing, shrink it, and then touch up some details with a pixel pen? Because that would explain the inconsistency.
I don't have a lot of experience working with the quirks of artwork shrinking, so all I can really say is, when touching up, either try using a paintbrush with some softness rather than a pixel pen, or learn to manually add anti-aliasing to your pixel-pen touch-ups. Or I guess just try editing and reshrinking the original drawing when it doesn't turn out right.
e: or, when using a pixel pen, don't put it at max opacity and then sketch in the touch-ups? I'm assuming your tablet has touch sensitivity.

Hmm...trying to do that in with the faceset file and it's just not working. I'll have to go back into SketchPad and redraw the area.

It can't hurt to keep going. Worse thing that'll happen is you'll get better.

As is, I think it would be more appealing for a complete re-draw per expression, instead of edits. Just changing the eyes and stuff is exactly the problem with anime.
I like where you're heading with this style.
