HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO SELL MY GAME COMMERCIALLY?

I'm not sure if this goes here, but what the hey!
So I was thinking, and I realized that I want to sell my game commercially(if possible), not entirely for the money, but so no one else can claim it. But I want to know how old I have to be to do so.

I think it depends on what platform your selling it on? If it's Steam, for example, I'd check and see if they have age restriction for game developers.

Though, if you're not doing it to make money, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm no expert, but I've never heard of someone selling their game to protect it, and I don't know if that even works? Again, I have no expertise on that.

I meant the main cause isn't for money, but okay I think I'll look into it.

Where are going to sell it? What country do you live in? Is the country you live in the sort of place that has laws and what not?

lmao what
Some countries have strict laws about what certain age groups can do when it comes to production of commercial creations. It's almost like every country is different.

I live in The US and yes we do have laws, if we didn't my first dissection victim would've been dead ages ago.(Haha, half joking)

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If you have to ask the question, you're not mature enough to make anything worth buying.

Also, selling a game "so no one else can claim it" is a sentence with literally no meaning. That isn't a thing.

Yeah, you aren't technically selling anything so your project doesn't even qualify as commercial in that regard.

What it sounds like you are looking for is copyright protection and... Yeah you might need to make an effort to ask someone else about it because I'm not entirely familiar with the process myself.

I meant that it's not the main reason.
My guess is age 18+.
What an ambitious thing to contemplate even without
computer programming knowledge.

There are people around the age of 16 that can upload junk to the AppStore. As long as you can take responsibility and know your stuff regarding licensing, I'm pretty sure you're good to go.

@Cyberlous: I see. I guess my post to Davenport answered your question overall?

Letting a 13 year old sell a rpg maker game isn't that big of a stretch. With some of the shit that does get sold, at least she has an excuse.

You're worried about somebody stealing your content. Nothing on Earth can prevent that. Plagiarism is a fact of nature.

You own everything you create; this is the concept of copyright. As long as you can prove that you created the content in question, you don't need to file with the state: that is merely a fee so that you can have the government's endorsement of your work. Filing for copyright is ideal, but if you can publish the game with someone like Steam, that is equally effective in securing proof of copyright. The point is that if somebody plagiarizes you, you need definitive documentation to show to a court. You don't need the government's copyright office for that: it's just an extremely convenient service they provide. State and federal law allow anyone of any age to file for copyright (though I do believe that you are a minor, you do have to have somebody act as Power of Attorney. A parent is sufficient Power of Attorney in this regard.) If you choose the government copyright office, it's the best way to protect your work, but it costs money, $35-55 if you do it yourself, or $250-500 if you hire an attorney, so really, have something worth copyrighting.

As for private organizations such as Steam, terms like "Power of Attorney" mean nothing. Unlike the government, if restricting you based on age is one of their arbitrary rules, then you cannot publish with them until you are of age, and that's that.
