COLLABORATOR(S) FOR IMPORTANT, EMOTIONAL, NARRATIVE-DRIVEN RPG NEEDED

Posts

Pages: 1
My name is Joe. I'm fairly new to RMVX, but have some experience with Gamer Maker from years ago. I'm seeking anybody interested to collaborate with me on what I consider to be a very emotional, dark RPG. I hope to release this project for free some day and, no matter what happens, am not seeking profit in any way - I only want to have fun making this and hope to raise awareness of this issue. With that said, I will not be paying anyone nor will we make money (notoriety perhaps) so please keep that in mind before responding.

What I need:
Sprite Artist, General (Titlescreen/Portrait) Artist, Musician, Scripter, Designer. Anybody interested regardless of speciality will be considered. None of these are really needed, but any or all would raise the overall quality.

What I bring to the table:
I have a Masters in Creative Writing and am currently an English Professor. My speciality is in teaching/writing Short Fiction, but I've always loved video games and wanted to make one so I've dabbled in Game Maker in the past and RPG Maker recently. My writing quality is high and while my designing level may be low, I have learned and am willing to learn a lot. I plan to do all of the game writing and most of the designing and really just need help with the resources - but I'm open to collaborating on all aspects of the project.

Preface to the Project:
There is something I recently learned about called the Troubled Teen Industry. Essentially, these are horrible, ineffective scared-straight programs that should be illegal. Parents all around the country are literally paying big money to have their children abducted in the night and held for weeks in a rehab facility where shame/guilt, food/sleep deprivation, and physical/sexual abuse are used (some legally and some illegally) to help change these "troubled" teens. This project will likely be very dark and emotional with some themes involving issues from drug addiction to sexual abuse. I feel this is a very important story to tell and I invite anybody interested in helping me raise awareness with a great character/narrative-driven RPG to contact me. **If you actually went to one of these facilities or know somebody who did, I would be very interested in communicating with you whether you want to involved in making the game or not**

The Project:
The game is tentatively called "Troubled" and follows a 15 year-old girl named Kira from being kidnapped in the night to living in a Troubled Teen Home to attempting escape with a friend. She is a lover of fantasy/sci fi and often retreats to a Zelda-inspired world to escape her real life. The game will take place 70% of the time in the real world where talking to characters and solving puzzles is the main goal and 30% in the fantasy world where other puzzles & RPG battles will take place.

If you're interested or have any questions please Reply to this post or DM me.
It sounds like a really cool idea. I wouldn't mind play-testing it. I do write music (only midi as I use Guitar Pro 5) so I could make music if you know what kind you want.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

This is the type of project that almost always seems to fizzle out shortly after being started. You apparently have little or no design experience and yet want to lead a group project. Can you link to games you've made before, finished or otherwise? If not, can you at least link to some examples of short fiction stories you've written?
You seem to have a really intriguing idea and I would love to see it come to life.
Unfortunately for me, I'm too poorly skilled and inexperienced to work with you, but I wish you the best of luck.

Also, as LockeZ said, posting some examples of what you have written or done would be a good way to find a team. The more information you provide, the more likely people will want to work with you.
Basically, contacting people who know about those Troubled Teen facilities is your best bet in this. Alternatively, look around in literature about stories and documentaries related to the topic. I wish I had any recommendations, but my literary knowledge is mostly on the whimsical side.

EDIT: By the way, not knowing much about mechanics design ain't much of a problem - games like Gone Home and The Stanley Parable are almost devoid of any gameplay elements, yet they're still critically acclaimed. Still, it is quite a challenge to convey a story through a game, since most other media lack interactivity.

This kind of idea....sick.

I believe i could say something in this kind of story.
I'm more of a storyteller myself through my art...I think i can contribute visual assets.
can it be dark scifi?

what's this dream world?
it is a horrible place?

i think it would be pretty lonely.
a reflection, of this troubled child's reality.

why not mostly be in dream world? or idk delusional...
this child's mind's having a hard time dealing with reality.
i mean the terrible people broke her.

kept yelling at her and telling her she was a terrible person and all that.

suicide! her friends would kill them selves.
her words, had no effect.

and then, we can take the
yume nikki route
. and she will leave.

but it's like. there's a secret route. or more then one.
to the 'ending'

it is possible, while nearly impossible, to survive.
'perfect ending'

if you think or do the right things, you will or can survive.

has lots of cool lighting and physics and stuff like the environment it's self must kill her too. robots, trains, cars, planes, rocks, things blowing up, things going wrong, people watching you, your just a test subject, and you don't even know!

why this child is fighting against what she is i do not know.

but she is running away. while running towards something.

and yet, "it's all just a big joke!"
because it was just a science experiment.
because NUMBERS matter!

in the secret of secret endings, in a strange place, with everything moving, around her. she is not moving, or is, at same time.

shes, in another dimension, condensed life. a place with out time, a place of pure information. no change. but movement.

everything is always moving, and you are not and or are, your just flowing in a river.

and then, she makes it out.
she got out.
she ran away.

and drove around in a car.
does xyz after,
or...it does not matter simply because she lived.
If you've messed around with the program already and you think you have the skills to do it, I could probably help. I've got an interest in game design and narrative plus editing, I could do some game testing and maybe eventing if you need that. Just be warned though, writing a game is MUCH different than writing a story, it takes some getting used to.
