Hi guys , Making a horror game similar to Clock Tower and I need the Killer to be able to follow the player into other rooms but not sure how to do it.
I have already made it so the killer is set to follow the player but not sure how to make him enter rooms , then while you hide he looks around then leaves the room and the event ends and it will be safe to move the player again.
Is there a tutorial anywhere that could help me understand that you guys can recommend is the best ?
Also is it possible to make him randomly appear using rpg maker 2003 ?

I think an easy solution for the killer "chasing you" Is through switches and checking what room you go into etc.
Like once the event is triggered where the killer appears and starts chasing you, switches come on where he appears in the rooms the player is going into.
As for randomly showing, i'm not sure on that. It's been awhile since I have messed with rm2k3 but i'm sure it's possible

I found this one on another forum but the website is dead and apparently the tutorial was for Rm2k3 . http://www.kamain.com/tutorials/visibleencounter.txt

Most of the stuff in RM2k/3, XP, VX, Ace and MV work similarly so you could probably use most tutorials from one version to do something in another.
I don't have TsuK3 (or 2K3) installed on this machine, but, the question that occurs in my mind is if you can assign a game variable a random number between X and Y? If it does, you could probably make the killer show up if the result of that randomization is... whatever value you want to check against.
Whats the best tutorial for Switches and variables ?
So far I can use switches and make chests and opening things but variables confuse me.
I've made it so so the killer can chase you and when he touches you you die but trying to make him follow is baffling me lol
I'll just have to keep trying.

Variables are basically numerical switches. Once you get your head around that idea it's all gravy.
Basically, you can do a lot with variables because they hold more than just two numbers (switches are basically two numbers - one and two. If one is on, then two is off. If two is on, then one is off.) Variables are one, two, three, five hundred. Their most common use is to count things. So say you want to know how many healing potions you have in your pack, you'd go to Variable Control and make a variable that is set equal to the Item you want to check. Then if you wanted the hero to reference that amount in some way you'd use that variable to do so. For example, say you want the hero to say "I've only got x potions left!" you would use this message code
x would be the number of that variable. Then it would show up as a number, depending on how many potions you have.
You can use variables to check a lot of things like your health, your money, the steps you've taken, the amount of fights you've been in, where you are on the map (you need two variables for this) and a whole host of other things.

This utility has built in tutorials on a bunch of stuff. Some of them are based on variables (and I think there's a good tutorial on variables themselves, too).

This one's okay.

A video tutorial for how to check for x/y using variables.
I also recommend taking a few games apart and looking at how they use variables, if you need examples. Good luck, because once you understand variables it's like you levelled up your abilities!

I'm getting so angry with myself now.
I'm making a small Pokemon game as well starring Misty and I am trying to make a fetch quest for her to find one of her sisters missing earrings. I tried following a video guide on youtube and it was all going fine up until the part where the Sister is supposed to say " you found my earring thanks here take this as a thank you " But instead she still says " Have you found my earring yet?"

It kinda sounds like the event isn't checking something correctly. It depends how the event was set up to begin with. Is the event checking if a certain game-switch is active, or is it checking to see if the item in question is in the player's inventory?
I'm... mostly sure you can check the inventory in TsuK3/2K3?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Can you post a screenshot of the event page that's supposed to have her thanking the player? If we can see how you're trying to do it, we can easily tell you the problem

Okay, it's a simple thing~ Easy fixed!
See, the way events work is that the higher the page number, the more 'seniority' it is given, meaning that if two pages are turned on, the one with the highest number is the one that will run. What you need to do is copy the second page and paste it after the third (then delete the now-defunct second page).
Since you trigger the third page to be on when you started the quest, it will override the second page because it is on. But yeah, a simple reorder of the pages will fix that.
In future, remember to have the pages in chronological order of oldest to the left, newest to the right. ^.^)b
