Make a separate sound file and play it at the same time as the movie.

Huh. Welp, I've no idea. You are using wav or midi files only, right? And they're as long as the avi file?
If that's not the issue then you might have to wait til someone else jumps on. Sorry!

I'm not 100% sure what your problem is.
If it's that your original movie is missing sound, both Macs and PCs now days come with free movie editing software where you can add sound back into the AVI.
If it's that rm2k3 doesn't want to play sound then I'm not entirely sure. I've never worked with playing movies with rm2k3 before so I'm lost there, and since Liberty's suggestion already didn't work I'm at a loss for workarounds. You could try starting a fresh project and add a single event that just plays the movie to see if the problem is limited to just the project you're working on. Make sure you also play the movie with standard movie software just to ensure it's not the movie.

Yeah, I believe playing an .AVI or an .MPG movie file in 2k3 halts all on-going processes at the moment, such as NPC’s moving around, messages being display on screen and even any sound effects playing in the background. Basically, the movie has to play and finish up running first before anything else can come after that. If you want to place a sound effect in there sometime during that said movie that’s being played, you’ll have to manually put it in there yourself with some sort of video editing software.
Your movie probably got corrupted. My copy of rpg2k3 plays movies just fine.
Make sure the movie resolution is the same as rpg2k3's screen resolution.
Also. Close rpgmaker and play the movie in your pc on it's own. If you can hear it then the problem lies with rpgmaker2003, but if you can't hear any sound by playing it on your media player then it is the movie's fault.
Honestly, using movie files on rpg2k3 is kinda difficult. There's lots of stuff you have to be careful about, like the movie's resolution, choosing the proper codec for your movie's compression (or else you'll end up with a 320x240 video that weighs 50MB) and then there's the audio codec, which may bug out at any second.
What i'd reccommend is getting rid of unnecesary audio to begin with. Have the movie with no sound, and if you must use music, make rpg2k3 play a music track before the movie event, and use that track as background noise for your movie.
This of course means you can only rely on MUSIC, because playing a file with sound effects that you want to be synced with the actions on the video, while playing that video at the same time, won't bring pleasurable results. RPG Maker 2003 has no lag when it comes to playing music, but there's a long lag before any movie files play on that engine (i tested a 5MB, 5 second movie file with the engine, the engine took 5 seconds before it played the movie in-game). So the audio is bound to sound de-synced.

i tried 3 things you know...
is there anything you all want me to do with the movie?
of how do you actually make movie better? with sound, imaging?
(ps i tried the play sound fx as BGM while playing this soundless clip before)
i think i saw one movie clip that was in the game files of "ib"
the game right here. this avi got sound this time.
right here
we need to figure out on how to make sounds work in the movie.
