POKEMON IN HAWAII. WHAT COUNTRY IS NEXT?

I haven't played a Pokemon game in years but I am a fan and it's cool to see that the newest Pokemon game will take place in Hawaii. I really hope they use Hawaiin art and culture to influence not just the area but also some of the new monster designs. Like tiki based pokemon for example.

What part of the world would you like Pokemon to be in next?

If you know me, my answer is of course somewhere in Africa. Hard to pick an exact country though. Probably the Democratic Republic of Congo. Other good ones include: Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.

Edit: If I were to pick a non African country it'd be Peru.

Antartica.
All would be ice-types, global warming would be the goal of Team PenguinEater and lots of it would be huge bits of cold plain land. Lots of snow too!

But really, I'd love Canada!! I'd totally buy that!

The legendary would be a Bidoof-variant

The other legendary would be a moose-type pokeymon.

You know what that would actually be great if they were to talk about global warming. And if it takes place in Antartica one of the pokemon has to be based on the alien from The Thing.

Edit: Also if it's Australia, we should get a legendary poison Platypus. But in all seriousness if it were in Australia that too would benifit from using cultural inspiration and not just the animals.

Can we name one of them Rowsdower?
I would only be in favor of Pokemon in Canada if it focus on the Native American side, which it probably wouldn't just like how the American Pokemon didn't have much to do with Native Americans as far as I'm aware (because I didn't play Black and White). Although if it focused on modern day political/social issues than I'd be fine with it taking place in the city areas of America or Canada.
Am I expecting too much out of videogames? Maybe but if we want to say games are important art forms than we need them to comment on shit that matters. And what better game to do that than with a super popular RPG set in modern times. Which many players of which are no longer children.

Edit: And yeah a Legendary Bidoof could still fit into that sort of Canadian version of Pokemon lol

I'd vote for this too, for a lot of reasons. There's so much killer Canadian stuff that would work in Pokemon (and let's face it, other games too.) Too bad we get overlooked for everything.

It would be worth noting that I've twiddled my thumbs over a Canadian themed Pokemon fan game for a few years now (Pokemon Plaid FYI) and even made some shit for it:

The "Cando" Region.

So yes, Canada please. If we can't get Pokemon, can we at least be an official Civ in Civ VI, instead of a mod?
so there's just a tims on every corner and the weather system just says fuck you whenever?
Just kinda remembered this, unfortunately, the games that take place outside of Japan seem to be picked based on simply the places in which Japanese people want to vacation at.
France, Continental United States, Hawaii are all places that Japanese enjoy visiting. So my hopes for anything in Africa or South America are very unlikely.

So if they continue the trend of popular Japanese vacation spots the most likely places are: Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Guam, Singapore, and Germany.
From what I see online that appears to be where Japanese people have vacationed most outside the regions that have already appeared in the game.

Also replace every Hiker with Lumberjack and every cop with RCMP

I don't know, I think Brazil might be a viable candidate for South America, both as a site the Japanese "want to vacation at" and from the historical/cultural ties they have with that country (and Portugal). They're both often featured in Japanese media, anime, games, etc... I remember playing Terranigma back in the day, and be "disappointed" that Brazil was the only country present in the game and not mine. Later when the Internet became more of a thing and I started looking around, I came to understand why.

Also, Easter Island is well known in pop-culture and it's technically part of Latin America, so that may be a possibility too. =P

I think you're expecting of this franchise something that is not. There's always hints to cultural/social aspects in Pokemon's designs, but that's not the focus of the series. I don't know who you have been listening to (I have an idea, though =/) But many of us already believe videogames are an important art form. That does not mean every game needs to further a cause, however...

While Canada would be very cool, I'd be more excited at a Latin American region.

Who do you think I listen too? My opinions are my own I've been working on my African themed game since 2008. You want to know what got me interested in Africa? It was a college class about the Art and Culture of Africa. I've continued to learn about Africa and other cultures as the years have gone by. So who is this person you imagine I'm listening to?

I'm well aware videogames are already an art form I wrote a whole paper about it in college that I got an A grade on. And a presentation as well. I am a huge defender of games as art. And thats why I want this art form to tackle big issues.

Edit: Furthermore if you want to know about who I listen to when it comes to political and social issues it's The Young Turks, Bernie Sanders, and Noam Chomsky. So there you go there's some people I listen too. But just know that I think for myself and don't agree with everything I listen to so please don't insult me by implying that I blindly follow whoever I listen to.

Edit Again: Anyway, on a lighter note, I agree with you that Brazil and Easter Island would be interesting places for the game to take place.
Alright, just to clarify, I didn't meant to imply you take your opinions from someone else (And much less that you're incapable of independent thought. wtf man?). This isn't any singular person I'm talking about. I've heard similar from many people, and suffice to say, I'm often at odds with that way of thinking... Ftr I'm not objecting to the idea of games tackling the "big issues". I'm objecting to the idea of this to be expected from big companies/franchises, who got where they're now by doing their own thing. I want them to continue doing their own thing. Others are welcome to do other things. The medium is big enough for all of us.

Anyway, I hope that settles this. The topic is interesting, it should carry on.
Fair enough alterego, I'll take you at your word that you didn't mean to offend but please try to be more aware of how your words can be heard by others.

And yeah not every game will comment on big issues like, the still huge problem of the threat of nuclear war like Metal Gear does but my point is that more games could be saying more. Do I realistically expect a Pokemon game to deal with issues of something like Global Warming? Not really but it'd be great if it did. Another popular kids entertainment, the studio Ghibli films, do a great job of talking about environmental issues.

Welp since a lot of people are bringing up Canada I just want to say that Inuit designs would be worth considering for that hypothetical Pokemon game. I have an Inuit bird sculpture, it's really awesomely carved the details are really intricate. Also it has eyes on its wings.
