hey everyone, sorry for the crud introduction. i'm new to all of this, (pc gaming, installing games yadda yadda.) i'm a huge fan of old school rpg's, horrors and many others. games like, "desert nightmare" and "legionwood". if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to do just the basics, it would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to the forums. I'm new just like you are. For some of the basics, I would check out the tutorials on this site, as they are useful.

As for other stuff (such as making sprites and such), I don't mind helping you out with what I know. To better help you (and for others to better help you), it would be good to have an idea of what specific things you need assistance with (like whether you are using RM2k3 or RMVX Ace for instance).

Feel free to ask questions in a pm, and I'll help to the best of my ability

thanks a lot. i do appreciate it! i'm actually not using any software at the moment, hoping to pick up Ace at some point soon. as of right now, i am just playing some games and gathering thoughts.
Something else that I did in order to learn some stuff is to look at guides on Youtube. That way when you get your product, you'll have a better idea of how to better utilize it so that it doesn't just sit there. Or try out the demo.

In fact, that's actually one of the main reasons why I went with rm2k3. Originally I was gonna go with VX Ace, but rm2k3 was only 20 bucks (at the time I bought it), which meant that I had all the time in the world to work with it and test stuff out. One way to learn some information is to just get the game (or the demo, whichever version) and experiment.
Welcome to RMN.

I think the best way to pick up the very basics is to just dive in on a demo project and start experimenting with mapping, eventing, etc. There's a Getting Started in the help section of all the makers I believe as well. Then if you run into any specific problems there's plenty of people on the help forum here able to lend some advice.

Hi! Welcome to RMN! And yes, there's no better learning experience than opening the editor and seeing how much shit you can break (or keep from breaking).
