LETS TALK ABOUT THE NEW 3DS/ 3DS/DS FAMILY

I recently upgraded my little original 2011 model 3DS to a New 3DS XL, I figured an upgrade wouldn't hurt. Some people are saying it isn't worth the 200 bucks, and I can see where there getting at, a little but I personally think it was money well spent.

I love the face tracking 3D, it is fantastic! Makes me want to go back through my collection and play some games the way they were meant to be played. The original 3D was headache inducing. So far I haven't had any headaches, using 3D on this system, but then again I don't keep it on all the time.

I also love the fact that there adding snes games to the eshop now. I've always wanted a portable snes, but didn't want to carry snes cartridges to play on a third party system. They play really well, I thought the control would be weird because of being so used to the original controller. But it was surprisngly smooth, I didn't have a problem with control at all.

Some faults with the system, its a chore to open the back to switch sd cards, when I did the system transfer, I went to open the back with the screwdriver and realized the screws weren't even moving I thought I striped the screws on it and raged. I looked a guide and realized that you pop it off with the stylus (which no one told me about), thank god I put a 32gb card in there so I will never have to open it again. The c stick is a little awkward it doesn't even move, it feels like an eraser. I thought it would at least move some but no.

Also never played Xenoblade Chronicles till I bought the system, an so far I love it! I'm not even out of colony 9 yet, I've mostly did some grinding and quests so far but the battle system is so much fun! My only problem is that the AI for the other party members is dumb I mean it gets some things right like using topple moves on enemies when its time, but most of the times from what I can tell it seems pretty dumb. But so far I really love it. Yeah I know its better on wii but I recently bought the New N3DS, and I figured why not, might as well, and you know how hard it is to find for the wii?.

Overall I really love this system quite a bit!

What system do you own, what's your opinion on the 3DS family in general? Any games that you really like to play and talk about? Let's start a thread! (unless there is already a thread like this on here then we'll go to that thread instead)

I still have the old 3DS. I'm not sure whether it's worth it to upgrade. The 3D doesn't really bother me.
I wasn't sure about 3DS when it first came out - the 3D aspect seemed like a gimmick (and it kinda really is XD ) to sell a normal DS with 'extra' features (read: cost) but after I broke my DS (a fact I am still sad about) I replaced it with a 3DS XL and, well, I love it to bits. It has a great amount of great games.

I mean, I never use the 3D aspect - that's still gimmicky as fuck - but the console by itself is a gem and frankly, I like it almost as much as my PC (one day I'll get around to buying a PS4... maybe... if, like, Suikoden 6 comes out on it).

That said, the whole "new system every 10 months for the same gimmick reason" is a complete fucking cashgrab and I hate that aspect. I mean, the flat one that plays like a gameboy, I can understand. XL, sure, I can get behind bigger screens, but the new one? :/
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I have a 2DS. It makes the 3DS obsolete and also costs less than half as much. I can't understand why they even still make the 3DS after releasing this thing.

Anyway the "New 3DS" isn't really a cashgrab, because it's the same system and 0 people will be upgrading. It's exactly like getting the new model of an iPhone. Nobody actually does that right when it comes out except for multi-millionaires. But for people who don't own one yet, or who lose or break theirs and need a replacement system, it makes it a little more tempting to buy a 3DS instead of a PS Vita. People don't want to buy a device that's several years old because they feel like it's already obsolete. So cell phone and handheld game companies have to add an irrelevant feature, slightly change where the buttons are, and stick a new version number on it to make people even consider it as an option.

wait, is this only for the New 3DS??

We own two 2DSs for the kids, bundled with Yokai Watch. I also have a broken 3DS XL in a drawer (the top screen's hinge completely broke off on the right side, and the video feed no longer works to the top screen - I have yet to open it up to figure out if it is simply a disconnected cord, or if something actually tore. I also have big clumsy ham hands). I also have a used 3DS Lite with someone else's account with a good handful of games on it. I got it for less than $50.

I find the buttons on the 3DS's to be too small. My hands cramp after playing for any length of time. Which is too bad because I do want to play my copy of Bravely Default

There is a small subset of games that will only work for the New! 3DS because it has more juice - mostly ports of Wii games (ie: Xenoblade Chronicles), but I still find the idea of a new system with possible exclusive games... irksome... It's about as retarded an idea as the new fucking PS4.

I think I really lucked out with my 3DS. I was at BestBuy one day, and this was right around the time the XL's were coming out. Well, lo and behold the case was filled with 3DSs, but for some reason, the REALLY old 3DSs were like 90 bucks canadian - the original was like 120 or 130 or something. I got some staff, checked out the two boxes - the only difference was that the 90 dollar one was just a bigger box - they were probably just trying to free up space for the much smaller boxed version.

I love my HOT PINK 3DS - I use 3D the vast majority of the time. The only issues I get were playing Kid Icarus - I tense up so much half my hand goes to sleep :P

As for portable gaming of retro titles - No way am I paying for all this shit again.

I also happened to luck out and buy a PSP 3000 right when everyone and their dog was abandoning the PSP platform like a sack of rusty hammers. This meant that: A) All the games were hella cheap, and B) the console was hacked to the nines and has pretty much the most perfect emulator support you can imagine.

With the NES, SNES, GAMEBOY, GBA, there even PSX support - I can rip my own damned PS1 discs and turn them into Eboots - it's glorious. Very rarely, one won't work well (Kartia, Valkyrie Profile) but overall it's amazing.

If I didn't have an android phone also pulling hardcore with the emulation, I'd have my PSP with me all the time. I mostly use it to play all the games that were translated that I never got a chance to play otherwise. Currently playing Emerald Dragon.
I got a Buffalo brand USB SNES controller and a OTG cable for my phone. I am playing EVO now.
I forgot to mention, only reason why I upgraded in the first place was my original 3DS is about 5 years old, and I noticed its starting to ware, the circle pad is pretty loose, and the buttons seemed beat in slightly the l and r buttons are pretty mushy now and beat in, and the bottom screen has some scratches on it. I kept this thing protected like a child, I've used it so much that its starting to ware down. Its still works and its still playable but I was a little afraid it won't last the next few years. Beside a few other systems, the 3DS in general is my most played system. Yeah the New 3DS XL is kind of a dumb idea in general, really they should have made this the starting point. But considering I never owned a regular 3DS XL I figured why not get it instead.

Never have been an emulation person. I've always preferred buying the games. And that because I don't even know how to hack a psp or android phone to do it in the first place. I'm afraid I will brick them if I screw it up.

Well, I own most of the games I would play, honestly. Other than the japanese ones. For android phones - you don't even need to hack it, you can just download the free emulators from the store. It's not even a thing! I have a piece of shit android, a Sony XPeria T3 that I got for free from my cell provider because it was the only smart phone not requiring a dataplan that also had WiFi. I mostly use it for emulation, and compressing tv series I want to watch down to negligible size and watching them when I'm on lunch.

The PSP is slightly harder, yes, but since Sony abandoned it, the mod community eventually got together and made hacks that you don't even NEED to do anything complicated to install. Literally put file on memory card, run file, and you're done. No Pandora batteries, no weird memory cards, no soldering. Since it has native PS1 support it's pretty much literally the best pocket emulator in the world.

But, no, I really do understand your position. But, sometimes, A Man's Gotta Game, and I have more time without my TV than I do with it.

Ah well, those amiibos still seem cool to collect, even though I have no system to use them on at the moment.

June 10. Next week! ^.^

GameExplain did a review of it and it actually seems like this may be the best Kirby yet, but I'll have to see for myself.

To explain it, its kirby gameplay at its best but its refined and so much fun. 1)the copy abilites actually have different moves this time, its not like in past kirby games where they only had one attack. 2) the levels and bosses are really fun, they take the idea of the jumping in back ground and for ground and run with it they have multiple different areas to explore and find sun stones. 3) The soundtrack especially the final boss theme is pure gold. 4) the mini games are actually really fun 5)the key chain collecting is pretty addicting to. I've played almost all the kirby games except crystal shards and return to dream land. And this one is my favorite out of the oens I have played. But this may change when planet robobot comes out.
