GAME QUESTION: GAMES FOR ONE HAND

I'm asking this as my left thumb is currently disabled (I'm suspecting carpal tunnel, but it could be nerve damage or anything really. Haven't been able to go to doctor's to get it checked because no insurance and government agency for Medicaid is stupid as hell...). So, any games that doesn't require 2 hands to really play with? RPGs, fighting games, action/adventure, and platformers are all out of the question I feel, but some games like Fire Emblem (I plan on doing FE7 next, and if thumb hasn't recovered before that's done, then FE6) and MAYBE Pokemon if I really want to do something (never played Pokemon before, so that'll be...a thing...). But yeah, any other games that can be played without the usage of a thumb??

If you came come across a game that requires a joystick (like one of those desk mounted ones), that'd be the way to do it. A game like Fury 3 would be ideal.
Mario Kart 8, if using TILT CONTROOOLLS!!! And Rodea the Sky Soldier, if you can find the Wii version. And I suppose a number of other Wii/Wii U games that only use the Wiimote.

Unless you plan on using the D-Pad with your right hand, FE games are going to be major thumb pain due to the massive amounts of unit shuffling. I mean, for just about any JRPG (or other non-action games), using the D-Pad with your right hand is viable, since it's not like timing is of the essence.

Stop masturbating so roughly. And couldn't you still play RPGs? I have with a broken right wrist. you don't really need two hands to navigate or click space
@Corfaisus: Hm...I never was good with joysticks but I may have to get used to them if I don't recover from this problem. I mean, it's not like I haven't played games that DOESN'T require sticks (Kingdom Hearts series for instance, but that requires a bit more finagling with the shoulder buttons which will be off-limits to me if I use my other fingers for the d-pad/stick anyways).

@turkeyDawg: Well, for FE I can just use my left index finger for the dpad, yes? That's why I don't think that'll be a problem. Though for JRPGs, it might be a bit troublesome on some of them like say...Crisis Core (which WAS going to be my next LP but yeah...). This started about a week ago (out of nowhere too. Went to bed with everything fine bar my arm, and then woke up to my left thumb just not working. Like...I can MOVE it around and stuff. I just can't BEND it at all really. My arm started hurting out of nowhere 2 weeks ago. Went to bed, 3 hours later woke up to a terrible pain in arm, and it went from there. Thought I'd share that little story. Looked up the symptoms and it SEEMS like it's carpal tunnel, but who really knows without a diagnostic which nobody can get without insurance because hahaha medical anything is stupid expensive...).

I'm also wondering just how viable it is to testplay my game now too, now that I think about it. I mean, if standard FF games (SNES era ones) don't really require the thumb for the dpad, it shouldn't...be too big of a problem to do testplays since the shoulder buttons are never used??

@InfectionFiles: Haha : v But no, as stated above, I can't even bend thumb. I tried to hold a controller with both hands, and thumb cannot even move at all on it. The RPGs I was going to do (Final Fantasy XII, Crisis Core, Secret of Mana, etc.) are more viable with both hands (AFAIK) than with using one finger to move dpad, no??

Ah, I was thinking older RPGs on the PC or a simple controller. Anything with the dpad dual movement I can see not working.
Yeah, if it were like...NES/SNES FF games, which don't have diagonal movements or forces you to use the left shoulder buttons, those would work fine (in fact, I'll probably be doing that for FFIV for PSP, see how that works out).
I think it might be time to go through the whole point and click adventure game catalogue. Those generally only require a mouse hand.

Your body is telling you to put down the video games and go outside.
You can play most MMOs casually with one hand on the mouse (I did it in SWTOR all the time, as I rocked a babby to sleep in my left arm).

Most RTSs can also be played casually with just the mouse.

Some Action RPGs can be played on lower difficulty - Diablo series, Torchlight series (I beat the original Torchlight entirely with only one hand - go for a summon heavy build).

Infinity engine RPGs like Baldurs Gate and Planescape Torment and KOTOR can be played with one hand, too.

Arcade PC games like Plants vs Zombies, Forgotten Lands, Insaniquarium, Zuma, hidden object games, Super Collapse and many more are also one handed.

You can play some sim games effectively with one hand like SimCity, SimGolf, SimAnt

Turn based games like Civilization is also ideal.

Here's a list of other games on GOG:

TL;DR - I honed one handed playing whilst child-rearing.
The Suikoden games (all of em) can be played with only one hand. They bound the triggers as confirm/cancel, so it's completely possible to do so (and I have done before).
I second the point and click adventure game thing. I do that all the time myself during snack breaks, leaving my left hand free for picking up popcorn or a glass. TellTale Games has some great ones, although personally I prefer their earlier, more traditional titles, before they got all DRAMATIC BRANCHING NARRATIVE WITH ALMOST NO ACTUAL GAMEPLAY-y. The Sam & Max episodic games, Tales of Monkey Island, Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, even their Wallace and Gromit stuff was pretty decent. I'd pass over their cancelled Bone series, though.

Something that's been hinted at already but not explicitly stated: most of the games on THIS SITE could probably be played easily enough with one hand. Arrow keys, Enter, the numeric pad's 0/Ins can be used in place of Esc for the older RMs' games, occasionally you might have to reach across the keyboard for Q/W or something, but it works.
I do that a lot - though I use the Arrow keys instead of 8462. In fact, you can use the PgUp/PgDown-9/3 for menu scrolling, too, so you can just play using the numpad on your keyboard.

every time i see you playing it on steam fills me with joy.

desktop dungeons works fine with mouse-only, too. it's a puzzle roguelike with rpg trappings.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

All cell phone games can be played with one hand! Helps if you set the phone down on a desk though.

Also any Nintendo DS or 3DS game that uses the stylus exclusively. I recommend Pokemon Picross if you have a 3DS. Also the entire Phoenix Wright series.

Web-based games are all pretty much exclusively point-and-click. Am I gonna get you hooked on Kingdom of Loathing, or are you gonna end up playing Cookie Clicker? You decide. You should play Candy Box before either of those though. It doesn't seem like much of a game at first but trust me.

Kingdom of Loathing

I second this motion.

Holy shit how did I forget about Kingdom of Fucking Loathing
Gotta add Visual Novels, and fun stuff like Unholy Heights.
I know most people aren't into them, but they are worth mentioning!

I remember playing harvest moon with one hand on the gameboy advance sp. That was fun! Sadly DS/3DS is too big for that to happen, hehe
