[RECRUITMENT] [EARLY IDEA] COEXISTANCE [RESONATE 2-ISH]

(this is supposed to be a commercial game. I forgot to tag it as so.)
Hi there!
Today I want to talk about Coexistance, which is the temporarily named spiritual sequel to Resonate.
It is an early idea and in fact I depend on others to develop the idea further and make several design decisions -- the very idea of the game means it is impossible for I to do it alone.

What coexistance is about:
It is about how we all live our stories separately, yet exist together in the same very world.
How each one of us has their own quest, and while these quests interwine, branch and develop -- in the end, our goals, motivations and dreams tend to be ours alone.
Coexistance is also about the beautiful and rich diversity and multitude of personalities and realities, which ripple and affect eachother in unpredictable ways.

What coexistance is not about:
It is not about "preaching" tolerance or trying to "please" anyone. It might come off as that due to its name, but it is not about that. However, that does not mean I will be ignoring this aspect of coexistance -; it is just not the core idea of the game. However as a member of the LGBT community the game will also feature characters of ethnical, sexual and gender diversity, obviously. (not doing so would be a huge disservice to everybody.)

Core features of the game:
- A rich cast featuring several main characters and dozens of supporting characters.

As you can choose a protagonist between several, each of these characters is unique with a different story, personality and gameplay style.
Examples of unique protagonist candidates:
-A magical girl
-A crime scene investigator / detective / police officer
-A mad scientist who's just lost his fianceƩ
-A kid who got lost from their parents and must find their way back home
-A mannequin accidentaly given life
-A doppleganger suddenly dropped into their reverse world
-A man who just wants to find a job
-A bacon obsessed kid who'll dO ANYTHING TO GET BACON
-literally anything

- Several different scenarios and stories that coexist.
There will be one scenario for each protagonist, and the idea is that they all play noticeably differently and even belong to different narrative genres. Each with a distinct "flavour", almost as if different games. For example:
-The magical girl scenario could be a lighthearted monster-of-the-day adventure.
-The detective scenario would embody a thicker atmosphere and subdued palettes.
-The mad scientist could be an extremely unpredictable scenario to reflect his madness.
-The lost kid could live a ghibli-like magical adventure back home
-The mannekin could live a non-linear quest in search and formation of their personality.
-The man who just wants to find a job would be a comedy-filled non-linear scenario.
-The bacon obsessed kid, the same as the above.

- At least one final boss for each main character.
As each character has their distinct motivation, role and conflict, their quests would take them through many of the same places (just like we all cross the same supermarket to buy our food), but also many different ones; and wind up in a completely distinct ending... or, rather unpredictably, not.

- Different, rich and varied locales and settings, home to the cast and all their stories.
The idea is to play with genres and atmospheres, featuring several radically different locales that could be seen as not belonging to the same game, yet having a feeling of unified cohesion.
For example, the game could have:
-A mystical, ethereal crystal city and palace with people dressed in beautiful Zeal-like vests.
-A bustling trade city.
-A prehistoric-like settlement.
-A dystopian medieval castle/town
-A futuristic space artificial settlement.
-An underwater dome populated by seemingly medieval humans, with leftovers of ancient technology
-A Balamb-like school setting
-A modern day country town.
These ideas are little compared to what YOU can come up with. Which brings me to....

...Why I need other people (to even begin to formulate the game)
Firstly the obvious reason: I'm just one guy, and I'm mainly an artist.
This is a large scale game intended to be commercial and competing to other high quality indie titles, and perhaps even AAA rpgs. (in terms of narrative & gameplay, as I do intend to have aesthetics reminiscent of 32 bit RPGs so no AAA graphics or complex physics lol)
Therefore it would need a team to survive and live up to its potential.
But more than that, continuing with the idea of "coexistance", while each team member would have their own role (such as musician, battle programmer, etc.), every single one of them would ideally create at least one character and scenario, as well as several locations, freely. and these characters -; created freely by different minds, as well as these locations; would all live together and cross eachother every day. Maybe its a bit of playing god... ahahaha >_>;
So while I am in charge of the core idea and gameplay (and piecing the different scenarios "together") each team member would be quintessential to the diversity and taste of the game -; each bringing their distinct flavor and ideas to the fray with their own quest from beginning to finish (and I'm sure we'd end up with a lot more genuine and interesting ideas than those I've whipped up in 5 minutes while writing this!)

I should probably now state which are the roles the game will be needing, but first, what I've defined as potential aesthetics and functionality of the game engine:
Battle system:
Visually:
The battle system's going to be a mixture of 2D or prerendered 3D sprites and simple 3D backgrounds.
The main reference is SaGa Frontier, a game which many of you probably hve already caught its influence on this thread. A 3D camera accompanies the selection of enemies as you choose skills, and leads the battle flow. A simple battle field composed of a flat floor and layered background flats serve as a place for the 2D billboard characters to dynamically engage in combat. Other examples of this mixture of 3D and 2D include:
From the SaGa series, Unlimited Saga & SaGa Frontier 2
Valkyrie Profile & Atelier Iris use a similar system, though the camera only moves horizontally.
Star Ocean 2 uses billboard characters freely roaming on a 3D field, somewhat reminiscent of the goal.

Gameplay wise:
Map engine:

Tile free, handdrawn backgrounds. However, the aid of a 3D modeller for game maps will be needed, to create simple perspective mockups for I to draw upon.
Examples of handdrawn backgrounds include my own Resonate, as well as Rhapsody, Legend of Mana, SaGa Frontier 2.
On the 3D again, collision could be handled by 2D collision maps, but ideally a 3D untextured mesh would allow the sprites to shrink and grow according to their distance to the screen, so that is the preferred map collision mode.

As you can guess, this is not a game to be made on RPG Maker. Indeed, although I am not familiar with many engines other than RM, I believe this project would be at home on Unity or Unreal.

The roles the game would need:
Artists:
- Monster artist (me)
- Character sprite artist (me)
- Background artist (a 3D modeler + me)
- General artist (me)

Programmers: <- essential
....basically someone, or more realistically speaking someonesto code the game. That includes:
-Map functionality & creation of 3D collision meshes
-Battle system functionality & 3D work
-Coding menus
-I'm sure a lot more @w@

Sound:
-Sound effects designer
-Composer

So... That's a lot of people.

Now that I got this all out of the way; why am I making this thread for:
I need people to assess the ideas presented here, potentially debate them and engage with the project. This is not something I will be actively working on anytime soon due to lack of personnel and financial resources, but by making this thread publicly available, I can make you guys aware of my core game idea.
Ideally if I could find a good enough Programmer that's interested in my idea, we could work together to create tech demos and generate interest.

What am I going to do with this game:
My plans for it are to slowly cook the ideas and gather people to potentially work on it. Eventually when I have the resources and personnel for it, work on creating a tech demo and a public funding campaign to raise awareness and more funds.
It might be soon, it might take 2 years, it might take 10 years.
I might also make 20 games before this idea starts being worked on seriously, some commercial even. This is my biggest ambition, and one that will need a lot of collaborative effort to come to fruition.

What can I pay you:
...Nothing. Sorry. I made you read all this for nothing! Hope it was an interesting read. I can't even promise revenue share for now. What I want to know is how much it would cost to hire you futurely, or what sorts of deals would be comfortable to you, or perhaps if you could work with me on a free tech demo, for, well, free, and then come to work with me officially after the game has gotten more awareness. I also want you to engage with the idea and become a part of it.

Why commercial?
Because I need to eat. And I want to live from games. I already live from my art. This is what I've decided. Besides, a game of this scale will hardly ever suceed if not commercial, as the expenses are huge. Also, I want to push commercial games forward with a new, fresh game, and potentially bring people into the industry with me. (or crash miserably and die an agonizing death. with a lot of people i've dragged with me. BUT HEY THATS NOT GONNA HAPPEN RIGHT)

Anyway that's a huge topic. Sorry for dragging too long, any feedback is welcome!
Once again, this is a very early idea but I felt like exposing it to see if someone could be interested. Thanks!

edit: I think i've never seen such a big post my whole life. ;A;

Looks good. While reading it, it was funny to see all my questions answered. Like is this Frontier inspired? Wouldn't be a more complex engine more suitable?
I would recommend Game Maker for this project. It seems to be the best fit for a 2d/3d game. You don't need graphic capabilities o U engines. Or Unity as it's easier to find coders for it.
Considering what I've seen a few friends do with Game Maker, it might just be the best bet indeed.
But I'll try to leave that to the coder(s) and see what they're comfortable with.
But yeah, the game's supposed to be really light and able to run on a potato even xD

I'll try to make some mockups soon, but whatever I do will likely be discarded as I'll only really start working on the story and world once I get people to work with me -- my share of the story can't exist without the others, so...
It's somewhat like those fun chain drawings we do here.
unity
You're magical to me.

This is a super great idea! Love the themes and character ideas! And I assume playing one story will influence the other stories somehow?

This is quite a huge undertaking, though. And I thought there was already a Resonate 2 in the works? Or am I thinking of the remake of Resonate 1?

At any rate, best of luck! You do amazing stuff and it'd be great to see a dream like this realized.
Hey man, I'm looking for some composer work so if you want. got a few initial ideas reading through it so I can mock up some samples for you if you inbox me :).
I can also do sound effects and stuff (just finished an audio degree) but mainly a composer!

Thanks,
Matt

It does seem a huge, gargantuan undertaking. I'm not sure if I can contribute much, except my undying, 101% support.
I'm absolutely amazing in that I create important topics and never remember to reply to them due to being busy doing unfruitful stuff when I have other more important things to do. \ >v>)/
But hayay I'm glad you guys like the idea!
As I've mentioned, it's not something I'm in position to start working immediately -; but I think it's smart to let you guys know what's in my plans, so expect more to come about this in the future -- In a future where I actually have how to hire people and how not use 99% of my time worrying on how I'll survive this week \ >v>)/

And I assume playing one story will influence the other stories somehow?

Ahyup, although not in major ways. Things such as quests done, etc. will vary not to make the game repetitive, although now that you mention it observing how the characters ripple in eachothers' lives indirectly would be pretty interesting...
This is quite a huge undertaking, though. And I thought there was already a Resonate 2 in the works? Or am I thinking of the remake of Resonate 1?

Neither! I'm working on bringing it to Steam! But I'm having trouble drawing maps for the new areas XwX)b
Also thanks Anti! I'll keep you in mind, I'll inbox you indeed but the thing about music is that it's easy to waste your talent if I don't have a solid team to work on it first >v>)/
I can see you easily composing stuff and it being stashed away for centuries since imo I think composition work should come only after the game's very solidly grounded, but who knows!
