NINTENDO 3DS MEGATHREAD
Posts
Heyo - I just thought it would be nice to have a thread to talk about 3DS games in general. If it in some way relates to the 3DS, or a 3DS game in some way shape or form, we can talk about it here.

Currently, I'm most interested to learn what Legend of Legacy was like, and Stella Glow. Stella Glow SEEMED quite interesting, but I only played the demo. Legend of Legacy has the allure and sting of all Sagaesque games, so I wanted to hear opinions on these if anyone feels like chiming in.

Yeah, same, I was planning on buying it but it's not in stock at the local GAME store ;w;

All I heard is that YOU'RE USELESS TO ME, KLOE! USELESS!
I'm just about to finish the newest Phoenix Wright (Spirits of Justice). Except for the fourth case (which was the fillerest of filler cases), it's been exceptional so far. I definitely recommend it.
After that, I'll start on Dragon Quest VII. I've heard less-than-good things about the port, and it apparently has a total length that borders on miserable, so I'm glad I just rented it!

If you think the (improved) length of the 3DS port is bad, the PSOne original is quite a bit longer. 100-130 hrs is fairly standard.
Trying to get into Fantasy Life at the moment. I picked Alchemist as my first job.
Since she's such a piss poor fighter, I'm often wondering "Am I supposed to be here? Because good lord I am like a wet cardboard box with some rocks in it that someone taped a knife to."
But I refuse to change my vocation! I just have to be this kingdon's alchemical serial killer, killin' things to see what kind of loot they drop and see if I can't make more things with them.

TIL Most RPG protagonists are just very practical serial killers.

Oh, I love that game! I've played it many times over, it's super duper fun!! :D
It's actually really easy except for some fights like the "post game boss" type ones like the dragon, the rest of the game is super fun, relaxed and easy!
I think I've played through 2-4 jobs until the master bit, but I actually really wanna play through some more to master the other professions.
It's a very good game Hex, I hope you enjoy it!!

I've been playing the new Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. I'm only at the start of day 2 of case 5 so not quite finished but I'm still really enjoying it. Ace Attorney really nailed the transition to 3d with Dual Destinies and SoJ continues to shine. I'd love to use have the character's animations as an avatar if there was a clean rip (and if I was a big enough asshole to spoil the cases). Lots of good, some annoying stuff in the writing, but so far I've enjoyed the whole game. Filler case was mediocre though, but at least it didn't get as bad as other filler cases (and there's something in it that makes it good that I won't spoil).
e: After Spirit of Justice it's back to Fire Emblem Fates that I'm slowly plodding my way though. I should also pick up Bravely Second sometime this year too.

Welp just picked up this puppy:
Probably the last one in my city. We'll see if it was a good purchase or not!
(cleaned me right out, though... (つ﹏<)・゚。 But on the plus side, if it turns out I don't like it, I can almost certainly sell it for a profit!)

I played a bit of 7D3! I enjoyed the crazy wackadoodle battle system, though I kind of wished they'd added more classes and character slots and opportunities for inter-class synergy rather than each oddball class prepping its own attacks/abilities. I'm not sure why I quit; something new and shiny must have come along, and battles did start to feel rather samey after a while. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future.
I was just watching some trailers for Pheonix Wright last night!
I think the story premise sounds amazing, although the oddly static 3D models seemed a little offputting to me. I'm sure it wouldn't bother me after like 20 minutes, but just from the trailer it's so weird to see a body all static and the mouth kinda moving to the words.

This new one is probably my fifth favorite overall (after the original trilogy and Investigations 2), so it's definitely worth getting. Some of the animations probably seem stilted because they tried to recreate the older sprite poses 1:1, but most of the new ones (especially the culprit in the first case, holy crap) are properly zany.
Really, the main fault is that the new prosecutor is probably one of the worst characters in the franchise (borderline Trucy-tier), but the game still works because the setting itself is more of an antagonist this time.

I have never played a single ace attourney game. I have a flashcart, I should give them a try. (Too hard and expensive to track them down now...)

I'm right there with GRS in that I'm switching between Spirit of Justice and Fates.
Spirit of Justice: Still as good as any Phoenix Wright game I've played. The characters are lovable and it's super satisfying to crack open contradictory statements. I love the 2D transition into 3D that started with Dual Destinies, and the characters show so much personality in their animations it's hard to dislike them.
I agree with Deltree that this new prosecutor just isn't doing it for me, though I don't think he's bad. Just forgettable. Apollo is the one who gets on my nerves. To me, he's just a carbon copy of Phoenix in terms of personality with a less interesting mechanic. I keep trying to imagine a scenario where pointing out nervous twitches somehow equates to finding contradictions in testimonies, and I just don't see how that would make anyone spill the beans.
Fates: Loads of fun. I played through both Birthright and Conquest, and I'm going through Revelation now. In terms of gameplay, Revelation is my favorite of the three. The new environmental effects added to the game forces new strategies and can catch you off guard and lose units if you're not careful. Maybe I got screwed by RNGesus for stat growths, but I'm having the hardest time by far getting through this game, and I've been grinding battles to get support conversations! I'm also on Hard Classic mode, so... there's that.
It's a shame that the story is by far the lamest out of the three. At least with Birthright and Conquest the stories were safe and generic. Revelation, though, reveals the "true" evil behind the world, but hides it with the most contrived and stupid reason I can imagine: Don't tell anyone about it or you'll disappear.
It's so dumb. It's soooooooo dumb! It's even dumber when you realize that the one ally who knew the truth this whole time didn't say anything until the third path, when suddenly she's all, "Oh. Right. Ultimate evil. Yeah, we should do something about that, huh?"

I'm about an hour into 7th Dragon III, and I'm really enjoying the music, aesthetic, combat - but the game has no 3D! What the heck! I guess some games for the 3DS don't bother with the 3D effect, but I almost always have it on. I think this game really would have looked like 20% prettier with 3D, too...
Ah well. FYI for anyone out there who's a 3D Junko like myself.
Also, regarding Fates - I'd probably only play Conquest - seemed the more interesting of the two. I surely can't afford 2(3?) games without passing up on something else. Also, that's not the first time I've heard people grumbling about how stupid the premise is for the third game.

Pro/con list of Conquest:
More traditional Fire Emblem classes and weapons + 1
No grinding, meaning you have to survive with skill alone +1
Map objectives are more varied than just "rout the enemy" + 1
Can't grind support conversations normally -1
EDIT: DLC that lets you grind support conversations is free +1
Plot brushes up against the absurd notion Revelation holds at its core -1
It has Camilla -1
It has Elise -99999999

Well, DQ7 finally broke me. I slogged through for two hours, got to the first few battles, then said "oh right, this is why I hate RPGs."
The new Phoenix Wright DLC case is out, but I hear it's kind of mediocre. I might get it if I get bored enough this weekend.
Otherwise, I might pick up Fire Emblem again! I bought Birthright originally, intending to plow through all three campaigns in order, but I only made it about two missions deep before I decided I hated it. Not just due to story, but mechanically - so many of the units feel like hybrid classes that it feels like it's missing its edge. Then again, shame on me for picking up Babby's First Fire Emblem, I guess. Maybe I'll just plunk down for Conquest and hope for the best.
Spoiler alert: I am really hard to please!
