GREENLIGHT FOR A GAME I'M HELPING MAKE: ADAEUS

Some time back I latched onto a new Metroidvania commercial game project that Clyve had started called Adaeus, and helped do some brainstorming and worldbuilding for the story. While I am only tangentially associated with the project these days, Clyve and his talented team have forged ahead and created a Metroidvania Rogue-like version of the game and got it onto Steam Greenlight. It would be super-rad of you to support us.

Steam Greenlight:

Adaeus is a 2D exploration-based sci-fi platformer with a heavy emphasis on RPG elements, including a skill system that employs a high-tech programmable ranged weapon that utilizes mod chips found throughout the course of the game to customize attacks.

in Clyve's words:
.. Adaeus: Rogue Planet, which we will be putting through Steam Greenlight soon! Since this will be an iterative process, we plan on putting it out on Early Access first (as roguelikes really lend themselves well to EA) so we can get feedback about our engine, mechanics, etc, as the Metroidvania will be built with the same engine.

Metroidvanias are absolutely terrible candidates for early access, as once you've played part of the game, nothing changes and it's far easier to get burnt out having to do the same things all over again. We feel Rogue Planet, with the random levels/monsters/skill acquisition will still hold great replay value even in early access, and allow us to get our engine nice and refined as we continue to work on the game. In turn, the early access money earned from Rogue Planet will be pumped straight back into both games making them even better (because art is crazy expensive... the sad truth about not having a dedicated artist on the team).

Adaeus: Rogue Planet is thus an attempt to use Early Access to fund the development of the full game (while also creating a neat roguelike sideproject in a metroidvania vein).

If you want to know more about the bullshit I made up for worldbuilding and story of Adaeus, feel free to ask me.

Thanks!

gimme one this

Thanks Kenton! Please give us your up votes if you don't mind, denizens of RMN!
Maybe a topic change will help garner interest.
This looks really nice. I'm loving the look of it and the -feel- of it - it seems really smooth on the movement which is something a lot of sidescrollers don't do, especially indie ones.

I'm not personally a fan of games like this but I'm all for supporting them for others who are.
Nice use of rips, that sword slash from SotN xD

Is the camera always that zoomed in? It seems like it would be annoying to not see very far in any direction. If the levels are small to make up for that, it would lower my enjoyment of the game.

No rips, but our sprite artist did use the body movement of Alucard as a base for one of our slashes (we have a variety). It is a touch too traced for our liking and will be adjusted, but it's not a rip! That could land us in some shit, haha.

The gif where you see that plant exploding is the normal view area. The trailer zooms in a little here and there for fun.
I was kidding, but I can tell it's "inspired by".

I'd be more interested in it zooming out while I play.
Fairly interesting. I instantly thought of SotN as well.

In that first screenshot it looks as though kentona is getting beat down by a pig, though the mana refill mechanic upon taking damage is interesting.

The second one I have no idea what's happening. I'd have to experience it firsthand.

Now my question is...since this is sci-fi...where are the laser swords and beam weapons. The suit itself seems pretty advanced while the actual weapons look a bit primitive in comparison though that's just me. Could see you starting with them and upgrading over time, which is probably the idea. Skill system also looks pretty interesting.

I'm pretty broke right now, but I'd support this if I had the money.

no what are those? how do I make one?
Guys, this needs to be on the frontpage under Spotlight: Development or Important!

The only way I found out about this, was while randomly browsering through someone's else twitter account - and I never use twitter.

I was so stoked when Kentona and Clyve were talking about this game back in the RMN chatroom years ago. It's so wicked to see how far this game has come along. Everyone on RMN is gonna feel the same way.

Seriously, this needs to be on the frontpage!

...Like, it may not be an rpgmaker game but, it's made by staff members who've spent a hefty amount of time, managing this site, day in and day out.

Put it on the Front Page!

Seriously!
Dude, chill Red. The only place it'd be eligible for atm would be one that requires a game page, which it currently doesn't have, so...

That said, it has a big-ass banner in the community forum area (we really need to make the community area the default).

Kentona, plox mak gam pag so can feature? Yo? Yo!

So this is what Clyve's been up to lately! Cool stuff.
so everyone's voted for this, right?
Yes. Can I have some makerscore for doing so?

...except it is an Integer field
I'd give cash money to be the only person with a ms value that has a decimal.

We did it, guys! Thank you for all of your support. A few more features are needing to be fleshed out (like the map system) before we can start Early Access, but being greenlit is huge!
Congrats and good luck with the rest of the game!
