Hey there soo I am trying out making a game for the first time. I have played a bunch of horror and adventure games and I have downloaded an rpg maker to get me started on making my own. It's the basic one nothing too fancy does anyone have any tips or trick for me to help with me making process since this is my first time I am open to anything. <33 ^^ Help is very much appreciated.
I think the best advise to somebody who's trying to learn how to work in a game-making engine is to make a project whose specific purpose is to just test stuff/ideas. Explore the event-commands, and what options they provide! Fiddle with numbers!
You know, stuff like that.
*Edit: Now that I think on it, there was a thread, maybe two concerning tips, tricks, or other tidbits of information regarding the RPG Maker series.

It may sound obvious, but I find writing down a basic outline of the game can be loads of help when starting out. What locations you'll need in the game, what plot points you want to hit, things like that.
Also, be sure to think in terms of gameplay. I don't know if you'll be going with traditionally RPG gameplay or something closer to a horror game, but think about what you can add to each section to make the game more fun or more interesting for the player :D

Start small may be the best advice I can give for a first game ^.^
Criticism is your best friend. Listen to the feedback people give you, and try and think of why they gave it. Never push it away, even if you don't like what it says.

I agree with everything that's been said above.
I would also add that some people work linearly and do everything in order (first town, first dungeon, character levels 1-2, second town, second dungeon, character levels 3-4). If that works, great. But if it doesn't, don't be afraid to jump around a bit. I find it is motivating to always have something I can work on, be it a map, battle, balance, character, town, plot, or whatever. Having a structure already in mind for your game allows you to do this "jumping."
