THE LEGEND OF THE MYSTICAL NINJA'S FUN WAY OF SHOWING JAPAN TO THE WEST.

The Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the SNES was one of the best games for the console in my opinion. It was such a chill game. It had plenty of fun variety in gameplay. And it was so very very Japanese which gave it a whole lot of charm. I don't get why more of the games didn't come out in the U.S. Are my fellow Americans really that disinterested in all the cultural stuff or did Konami simply assume that Americans wouldn't be into these games. I know Mystical Ninja uses its cultural imagery in a goofy sort of way but it still fascinated me when I was a kid and I was thinking the other day that maybe other games should be made like it with other cultures being represented.
I feel like Goemon should be a way more iconic character in gaming on level with Megaman or Kirby.
So I guess my question is 1 Would you like to see more Mystical Ninja (assuming Konami one day gets their shit together)? and 2 Do you think Mystical Ninja's use of cultural imagery would be suitable for other games that are about other cultures of the world?
Yeah I guess that's what I was getting at, I mostly just wanted to ramble about a fun game from the past lol.

Yeah I loved this game. Played the hell out of it as a kid, only to find out as an adult that the entire game's design was pulled from the collective well of Japan's history and culture.
There are four Ganbare Goemon (the unlocalized Mystical Ninja) games on the SNES, and they're all a little different without changing their overall feel at all.
I played through the third game with a buddy of mine on a couch and I cannot recommend it enough. It's a very, very fun little adventure game/platformer. Not too long, unfortunately, but what's there is really great. 2 and 4 are pretty weird games but solid platformers, but the simultaneous coop in 3 was outstanding. There's no translation that I know about, but there's a walkthrough on GameFAQs that'll get you through the story sections. It's got overhead Zelda-style puzzle platforming as well as really fun sidescrolling missions, all coop like the first game.
The second game is REALLY Japanese, and I'm not surprised it didn't get a localization. Like, the whole series is a bit whacky if you don't know anything about Japanese mythology, but the 2nd game just goes nuts. I'm honestly surprised the 3rd game didn't get a translation, though. I loved the first one, and the third one would have been one of my favourite games on the console had they translated it. Seriously, get a ROM and a friend and go nuts.

Thanks for the recommendation Kaempfer. I be sure to play that one.
Anyone know why Goemon uses a pipe for a weapon? (maybe i can look that up)
I've always wanted to play the N64 one but never got a chance to. Te videos ive seen online look great. The should make another 3D one and made it look stylistically like Okami.

I hope this series makes a return someday. Sadly, "Cartoony Feudal Japan" isn't a hot seller in anime these days and between that and several failed reboots to modernize the series, it's no big mystery why there hasn't been a Goemon game in 12 years.
I have fond memories of the N64 Goemon games, even if the majority of the humor went over my head as a kid.
