[RM2K3] NEED HELP TRYING TO CREATE A RUN BUTTON FOR MY CHARACTER.

I have tried looking at tutorials but each one is completely different and it's confusing me , I also tried copying a common event from another game that has a run button but it did nothing when I used it in my game.

Does anyone have a beginners Step by step tutorial or video I could follow ?

I want the character to walk a tad slower by default and when you press the run button it obviously speeds the character up , Like resident evil games for example.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
