[RM2K3] LOOPING AUTORUN EVENT / OPENING CUTSCENE

Posts

Pages: 1
I am still very new to RPG Maker, but I've been searching everywhere for a fix on how to stop an autorun event from looping and have found no luck.

Event starts on same map as player start point (to mimic an opening cutscene).
Have tried doing a switch with a new page on the same event but instead of looping it then just stops on an eternal blank screen.
Any help would be appreciated!

You're on the right track, a switch is in fact the way to go. The reason it's not working is because switches work a little differently than what you seem to have been trying.

What you want to do is place the "Control Switches" command at the end of the list of event commands on the first event page, and have it set the switch to ON.

Now, you can go to the second event page (which should have nothing on it) and look at the "Conditions" section in the upper left. Set the first condition to be the same switch you turned ON on the first event page.

From that point on, the second event page will only start working once that switch has been turned ON in-game. So only after the player has already seen the intro cutscene. Basically, the switch being turned ON unlocks anything that has its Condition set to that switch.

This is also why you should not set a Condition on the first event page if you want it to start right at the beginning of the game. As long as the switch you set as a page's Condition is still OFF, the event commands on that page will not start running.

I hope this helps a bit. The best thing you can do to learn more about how switches work is to make a seperate project or a new map, and just start experimenting with them a bit. Switches are a pretty essential part of using RPG Maker, and you'll quickly see you can do tons of stuff with them once you've figured out how exactly they work. Good luck!

Yeah, the autorun event will loop until something aborts it. You can do it by turning on a switch at the end of it. And have a second page of the autorun event. Like this:

(Note: make sure the second page isn't set to autorun)

Alternatively you could put an "Erase Event" at the end. But this will make the event fire again if you leave the map and come back to it.

Side note: You are tinting the screen to black but never tinting it back again, so the screen will remain black. Show screen only works for when you used the Hide Screen command before.
It's worked! Ideal, thank you both :)

The only thing that's still happening when I move to another screen is the weather effect I set. Do I just set the effect to 'none' when I enter a different area/map?
In general you should be looking to turn off anything you turned on during an event. Anything that doesn't need to remain on. Even if you don't need it for the very next screen, if you leave things on it might come back to bite you later. Some bug will be happening and you don't know why, it's because you left something open.
