[RM2K3] IMPORTING BITMAP CHARSET, BUT COLOR DISTORTS

Posts

Pages: 1
Hello All:

I'm trying to import charsets and tiles into RM2K3, but when I save as bitmap the color distorts. Am I supposed to save as bitmap? I can't save the paint file as PNG or the file cannot be accepted into RM2K3.

This has not happened to me before when I used Windows XP (a 32 bit computer.) I am now using a Windows 7 (64 bit computer) Is it because I am using the different computer, or am I doing something wrong when I save the file?

Hi Biggamefreak!♥

Yeah, I have this problem all the time with RM2k3, what you need to do is:

Download IrfanView.

1)Once your chipset is the way you want it, just save it.

2)Open your Chipset in InfranView

3)Choose Image>Decrease Color Depth>Custom 256(UNCHECK floyd dithering)> Select "Ok"

4)Select>Save(original folder)

And your image should now work in RM2k3 without any color loss. I've had to do this every time while working with art assets in RM2k3 for as long as I've worked with RM2k3. (I even make backups, in case I screw up this 1 step)

If you're still having trouble after reading this, let me know and I'll upload a few pictures of how to do this later on.

EDIT:As a sidenote, if anyone knows an easier way of how to convert this stuff, let me know.

If you're using GIMP to edit your graphics, you can just go to:

Image > Mode > Index > Generate Optimum Palette 256.

Saves you the trouble of opening up a separate program each time. You can do the same thing in Photoshop, but I'm too poor to be familiar with that.

Another perk is that you can convert images to pre-existing palettes. Not super useful in RPGMaker, but a godsend for something like OpenXCOM modding.
Thank you both. My problem is solved. I downloaded both Irfanview and GIMP. Irfanview is easier for me because I can edit in paint(as I am very comfortable in it) and I do exactly what LordBlueRouge did and it works perfectly.

I now can now resume my game artwork. Thank you both so much. This problem was really bottle necking my work.
Paint bmp default palette is just so joke it can be. (What MORE worse: It can´t change :( ) That is one THESE reasons why i wanna RPGMAKER OWN TILE painter ... ( Why there NOT are?)...
