STEPPING IT UP: STATUS EFFECTS V2
Posts
Okay so you're poisoned, blinded and muted. Boo hoo, chug an antidote. A real man would be afflicted by status effects like Realxorz, Epiliprone or Peanut Gallery.
The point of this topic is to make up new status effects. They can be twists on old ones or just totally random. Obviously, this applies to RPGs.
I'll start with Epiliprone. Whenever the afflicted character attacks, the screen flashes a rainbow of colors. Any epilieptic characters are inflicted with Seizure and the player may or may not suffer from the same effect.
MODIFY: Okay I just want to say that this is a moderately SERIOUS topic, okay? Think about things that COULD BE IMPLEMENTED in, say, an RM* game (not THE PLAYER DIES INSTANTLY IN REAL LIFE)
MODIFY2: GOGOGO

Y'know, a really good example of unique status problems comes from none other than Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. They still had the basics like blindness, poison, etc, but they were all given the names of real diseases. So, instead of blind, you got glaucoma. Instead of poison, it was diabetes. There were a handful of others that I still don't understand, too. When your character is stricken with Asperger's, they twitch around, and the status' description only says "makes social situations awkward." I don't know what the battle effect was.
As for weird status problems, Worry is probably the only strange one in my lot. It's a bit like blind, but only causes you to miss half the time instead of always. The premise behind it can be shown in this Monty Python quote:
"Perhaps, if we taunt it, it will become so cross that it will make a mistake."
When a character is worried, they're so paranoid about whatever it was that worried them, that they fail in their action every now and then. Almost too weird...

Really Bad Halitosis- If a party member is afflicted by this monsters run away from you, and NPCs kick you out of town
Addict- A party member afflicted by this becomes addicted to the next item used on them, increasing the effects of the item by 20%, but all other items are reduced to 50%, and occasionly the member refuses to use those items at all.

Here's mine. Nothing super fancy or crazy or anything.
Vulnerable:
Raises susceptibility to attacks. I have a character in my game who's really weak to ice attacks. So if she's Vulnerable, Ice attacks will totally destroy her, maybe even one-shot her.

Insecure
If an enemy taunts characters with a predisposition to this ailment, that character will not be able to act for 1d4 turns.

Fire Break - Negate Fire immunity/absorbtion
Ice Break - Negate Ice immunity/absorbtion
Wind Break - Stink up the room.

Common Cold/Influenza-
When a character attacks there is a chance that they will take
damage instead. Influenza increases that chance. Does not effect magic
skills only physical skills and regular attacks.
Fever:
Decrease chance to hit with any attack and lose Sp every time you
attack. All forms of attacks cause the Sp lost and increase chance of
missing an attack.
Neuro-Toxin:
Cannot attack or use skills. Lose hp every Turn/Second/Move
If you are already under the poison status effect instant
death:
Pneumonia:
Decreases all attack strengths. loose Hp and SP every 2 Turns/Seconds/Moves
Decreases all Defenses. After a while gives you a random status effect
including Instant death.
Color Disease:
The element of the color you turn into Does double damage:
Decrease Resistance to magic. Increases any stat depending on the color
The weakness of that element and the element it is strong against are also affected
Red = Fire
Red Disease: You take double fire and water damage, but you do double Leaf damage.

THE PLAYER DIES INSTANTLY IN REAL LIFE)
AWWW you took mine
My brother and I used to brainstorm like this a lot.
Hunger - the character died after a while of just walking around and not eating. your accuracy and strength plummet as a result. can only be fixed with a food type item (I have a habit in most of my games to make healing items food due to our inside joke about the relationship between HP and being hungry, though)
Sleepy - not completely asleep, you can still move, but you're moving very slow. It's like being under slow, but your accuracy drops. occasionally will do nothing but yawn (which to me is like Splash in Pokemon - it does nothing) and the yawn is contagious and might pass on the sleepy status. I like sleepy better than "asleep" used in most games.
Horny - it's a real world status effect, but I wouldn't put it in my RM game to save my life. XD Even though my main couple is married in my most recent game, I wouldn't be sure HOW to impliment this properly.

color blind - disable all elemental effects
copycat (for turn-based games)- other party members do the same thing you do - if they can't do it then they nothing (for example, a knight won't be able to cast spells)
dark room syndrome - fight the battle without seeing the battle screen (just a black screen)
underdog - your stats reduced everytime you got damaged

Comedian-
Enemies automatically enter the confused state when physically attacking the person affected by this state

For humans:
-Poison: There may be variations of posion, some which take hp regularly, some which might kill you in one shot after 4 or 5 turns, some which might reduce your status, depends on what poison the fang/blade/bullet was coated with.
-Stun: generally caused by multi directional attacks. This one affects humans piloting mechs as well.
-Blind: a short term blindness caused by strong flashes of light. Also works on characters piloting mechs. Reduces accuracy and evasion.
-Acid: takes hp slowly like regular poison status
-Burning: reduces defense and takes hp for a few turns
-Cold: Moves slowly due to cold
-Frozne: Stop moving at all.
For androids:
-Didorder: same as regular confuse status in games, the androids attacks ramdombly. Can be inflicted/repaired by hacking skills.
-System Down: Same as sleep in regular games
-Acid: same as acid for humans
-Frozen and cold: same as those for humans.
-Sensor down: same as Blind
-Burning: same as burning for humans
-System Reboot: Same as stun for hummans, but caused by hacking.
For humans and androids piloting mechs:
-OS down: Mech stops working, same as System Down.
-OS Disorder: same as disorder
Sensor down: same as sensor down for androids
-System Reboot: same as system reboot for androids
-Frozen, cold, burning and acid: same as the other versions.

Phasing: Alternate between in-combat (able to attack & be attacked) and out of combat every turn.
Fear: Cannot attack Dark Element creatures
Revere: Cannot attck Light Elelment creatures.
Hydrophobic: Cannot attack water element creatures.
Pyrophobic: cannot attack fire element creatures.
And so on liek that I suppose lol

Like M:tG?
Hydrophobic: Cannot attack water element creatures.
Careful with this one. Hydrophobia is synonymous with rabies. Although rabid is always a fun status effect to have in games : P
