I just hope they've been listening to the complaints over the years and taken them to heart..
A lot of people started using a different piece of software all together just to make their maps for MV.
That tells me right there that RMMV got some sh*t wrong.
And has anyone else noticed the suck-ups who come out the woodworks defending products when you have anything negative to say about it?
IT'S A PRODUCT, NOT A LABOR OF LOVE.
It's within consumers rights to be negative about a product if they've not been completely happy about products in the past.

Yeah, to be frank, it's fine to have complaints about a product, but saying it's not a labor love is kinda insulting.

Nessy and a lot of others put so many hours in making MV what it is. It's fine if you don't like it, it's fine if you have complaints, it's not my go-to RPG Maker engine either.

But please don't be needlessly crappy towards the people who make it. Software can be a labor of love as much as anything else.

I'm not really sure what changes to expect here. Like, I'm mostly reacting to kory's post above, but, I doubt they will allow unlimited mapping layers any time soon. We've had at most three mapping layers in XP (though my memory is very fuzzy on this point), so I kinda feel they would either retain whatever MV had, or go up to 3 layers on this point. Making tactical games in a similar vein to Fire Emblem and/or Shining Force will probably still require scripts/plugins to implement.

What I'm most worried about the most in regards to this engine is the external support from coders. Specifically speaking, Yanfly has left the scene. There will be no Message System, Lunatic plugins, or what-have-you for this engine. I suppose what would be an interesting scenario is that he's secretly working along with Kadokawa/Enterbrain/Degica to have those kinds of plug-ins still available for this engine. Possibly at a premium? I do think Yanfly deserves some kind of payment/reward for all the service he's done for the community over the years, rather than just... peter out of existence. I dunno.

I suspect this might be like VX Ace was to original VX, where they build the new engine on the back of the old. If so, (maybe) it wouldn't be hard to modify MV scripts for whatever this new one is (MV Ace? XD).

And yeah, I'm a little concerned about the lack of a dedicated and crazy hardworking coder like Yanfly, but the community always tends to step up and fill in the voids in that respect, so we'll see how it goes.

Just my two cents as a kooky artist type, but I mostly use external programs for mapping (Clip Studio Paint, GIMP) because parallax mapping is the bomb and tilesets are limiting. :V

I assumed this was just pie-in-the-sky "and I want a pony, too!" fantasizing. I mean, I'm pretty sure whatever gets put out is gonna be underwhelming and full of problems, so we might as well dream!

IT'S A PRODUCT, NOT A LABOR OF LOVE.
It's within consumers rights to be negative about a product if they've not been completely happy about products in the past.

This is the kind of rationale that leads to harassment and abuse. "It's a thing that has no emotional value, therefore I can do whatever I want in response to it." And that is exactly what happened, which led to Yanfly's retirement.

I've never been an MV person and I still have a lot of gripes with the engine. But the amount of work that Nessy, Yanfly and others put into fixing it as much as they could came from a deep love of RPG Maker. No, I don't think it was right for Kadokawa to have released MV in the state they they did, but to discredit the hundreds of manhours, from a team that have been long-time fans of the series, that went into getting it to where it is now because "it's just a product" is really insulting.
I'm excited for the next RPG Maker. I'm not liking the way they are announcing it, providing some information every week. Just tell me it all NOWWW!!

I am unlikely to use the next RPG Maker as I'm already heavily invested in RMMV. I keep thinking to myself, what would make me switch to a new RMMV? I haven't really come up with a good enough answer.

But I'm still going to purchase it on opening day. I've been part of this community since Don Miguel and RM95. I support it fully (even if I'm sometimes more of a lurker than a poster).
When I say labor of love, I mean someone is not getting paid.
I couldn't think of a better term or way to describe it.
But basically, if it was something someone was doing out of the kindness of their heart and not to get paid, then I wouldn't complain, I'd have no room to complain.
But it's a product, and if I'm not happy, I'm going to be critical.
Also, I seem to have struck a nerve. Interesting.
I'm honestly rather shocked with all the folks I seem to have offended.

Mostly it's just that you're saying things in a really annoying, untactful way. Like, I doubt most folks here disagree with what you're trying to say, but the way you say it, you sound like a jerk.
I guess I am a bit of a jerk.
I just get annoyed with white knighting for companies or corporations.

Anyhow.. back to the topic at hand.
Would it annoy anyone if they added options for tile sizes, but didn't supply resources and instead pointed at resources from older makers?
I'm just wondering how much of an upset it'd be if they decided to add the options for assets and asset sizes but didn't include any.

Most likely gonna wait until I can get it for $25 at most like i did with MV if it does end up being something like mv+. Only way I'm buying early and at full price is if after the first day buyers are done reporting what's great and what's bad the great vastly outweighs the butt.

After all the time MV came out, I still find it less convenient than Ace in very specific, very niche things that nonetheless are such a sad dealbreaker because tbh using it for a while I find out it speeds up certain scripty things that makes doing stupid colorful shit more comfortable and you do grow on the weird tilesize when you do things like parallaxing or using big sprites, but having each of my friends have wildly different experiences thanks to varying levels of performance in what is a small game is just...
I'm not worried about price.
I'm worried about value.. well.. maybe that's not the right way to put it.
I'm more concerned with how good it ends up being... supposedly Archeia is involved.. if so.. i've got a TINY bit more faith in it.. but I'd still like to wait and see what they've got up their sleeves before I get excited.

Yeah, I can understand that feeling. I preordered MV and ended up feeling a bit burned by it, as MV had its issues when it came out. I'll be waiting on this one until I see more about it.

It'd be funny if they released it and were like "LATE APRIL FOOLS IT'S ACTUALLY A SHMUP MAKER AND WE'RE PIVOTING! SMELL YA LATER, PUNKS!"
I can't legally say anything about it but there's things and stuff and stuff and things and stuff.

Ya know?

Oh, and things.

You heard it here first, folks: Liberty confirmed my predictions. I am the Nostradamus of RPG Maker, now known as Shmup Maker.

That would be pretty funny XD But I'd put money on it being an actual PC engine. Even as vague as the tweet was, I don't think they'd be like "COMING SOON, THIS SUMMER WHENEVER, SOMETHING TO GET HYPE ABOUT... A DUMB PORT." I hope not at least :P
I found out earlier that RPGMaker MV was on the Switch... had no idea

As opposed to any other announcement, where our convrsation would be of great consequence.
