CLEARING A BOSS BATTLE ACTIVATING ANOTHER EVENT

Seems like it would be simply so know me i am missing a basic step. What I what to do is stop players from entering a city until this boss battle is cleared. FYI the boss would be on a different map. Let me know if you need more information. It's on RPG MAKER VX ACE
The short answer is to use a game-swtich for both the boss, and the city. A longer answer follows.
So, after the boss-battle, use Control Switches to turn on a game-switch. Create a new event-page, and require that game-switch to be active/enabled/turned on to prevent the fight from happening again.
Similarly, the city's entrance event (events?) can have a message telling players it's inaccessible, among whatever other business you need to keep players out, on Page 1. Page 2 would be it's accessible event, and it would require that the switch enabled from the boss fight is, in fact, active/enabled/turned on.
