TRYING TO MAKE A TRANSPORT ITEM

Posts

Hey, first time poster, long time Maker. I'm working on a long time project called "This is my personal hell" and I'm trying to make an item that will transport the party to a portal hub.
Do I need a special script to enable a change of location? Or am I able to create it in-engine using a common event? I'm still pretty new to the game making thing, as my previous titles all crashed on me... Fun stuff.
You can make a common event with the teleport location and add it to the item.

If all the item does is teleport you to one specific location, then, yeah, that should be doable as a Common Event, using Map Transfer. I don't know which RPG Maker engine you are using, so, I can't be more specific as to how to go about doing that.

Oh, it's super-easy. Barely an inconvenience.

Make an item:
2k/2k3: Set its item type to switch. Set that item to turn on a Switch you've named "Teleport Item" Create a common event that triggers as an autorun when "Teleport Item" is on. In the common event, transfer player to hub; turn off "Teleport Item".

Don't know about XP, but it's probably going to be like the explanation below. If not, see if you can do it like above.

VX/Ace/MV/MZ: You don't need a switch. You don't need to set the trigger on the common event. In the effects window of the item, just have it call a common event to teleport the player to the portal hub. No switch to turn off. Just have the teleport in the common event.

I'm using MZ and I figured it out, it's under common events, which also opens up a whole world of options for me. Can I also use Common Events for Summons as well?
I'm also trying to balance out a Tarot Card system, Cups (Hp/MP), Wands (M. Att/M. Def), Swords (Att./Def), Pentacles (Agility/Luck) with both Upright (+/-) and Reverse (-/+).

I've got the Minor Arcana done, just need to figure out the Major Arcana (Fool, Magician, Hermit)for buffs and what not.

I'm also in the process of expanding the amount of Weapons, Armor, and accessories as well. I figure if I can knock out the tedious stuff first, I can better focus on the world building. What monster/item icon/face generator packs are their to install?

It depends how you want summons to function? If they are a temporary party member, that would likely be more inclined to a Common Event. Just be aware of the max party size if you go this route. The other way to do it is through a standard damage board-wipe area of effect skill with a special animation. MZ might come with a few such animations.
Thank you! I'll keep you guys updated on everything.
