I just saw an adventure quest add shown up the top and i'm seeing more as i view pages.
Anyway, my question is why have ads been added up the top?

Take a guess.
To more accurately answer your question (thanks Dudesoft), it is because this site does not run on nothing.

Lights please?
If the world could talk, it would say, "Hey, wat up, no one often gives me the time of day. So how is the weather? Heh, get it? Man I'm so--"
and then you would walk away. The world is a loser.
It's also expensive to live in, especially when one needs to pay the bills, or even support a website and/or forum. So where do we turn from there? Well, our wallets is a good start. But we'll find it's only got a few well-timed moths to fly out, lest we earn this money from someplace.
A useful tool on the internet, a place where people can communicate and purchase objects with electronic money, is advertisement. With advertisement we can hope to sell our wares; and to host advertisement places, we will spend money for the time and space!
And that's why there's advertisements on RMN, Charlie Brown.

I wish it showed me something beside that Habbo banner all the time, because of traumatic experiences.

haha all it ever shows me is adventure quest and fantastico.
Adblock for the lose. It's not a big deal here, but there are a lot of sites that depend on advertising to stay up and running, so it's not cool to use their content and not even give them a chance to monetize.
It's not like we live in 1998 where every website has 15 popup ads. Most sites try to work the ads into their layout now and they're usually unobtrusive.

I actually don't mind them as they don't slow down the site. Some of the sites i go on have hundreds of them and it takes about a minute to load a page.

Unblocked.
author=demondestiny link=topic=2733.msg51550#msg51550 date=1229860086There are some of us who actually know how to properly put ads into a layout. You shouldn't be seeing much slowdown on RMN at all.

Unblocked.
Like I said, it's not really a factor here. We don't depend on them. However, I was reading an article the other day about how a prominent Web 2.0 site with tech savvy users is bleeding cash and their ads weren't generating near enough cash as similar sized websites. Their faithful followers were bemoaning its inevitable death, until one of them had an epiphany and realized that "hey, wait... it has ads?"
I think an informal survey showed like 85% of them had Adblock or similar software installed.
It is a little-known fact that RPGMaker.net is primarily funded by Holbert's wallet. When that fails, private donors inevitably step in.

I say we whore out our members for money. Or apply for US gov't bailout. They're giving them away like candy at a Hallowe'en party!

I would donate my entire life savings just to help out RMN.
I actually make my living off of internet ads. Please turn off adblock. We are only trying to deliver services and products that will benefit you.

Over there's the door. :P
