how? do you make one like the megaman zero games with rpg maker 2000/2003???
You might be better off using Multimedia Fusion. Some people have managed plat formers with RPG Maker, but it is obscenely complicated stuff and you're better off just using an engine that does not say 'RPG' in the title.
Some people are capable of pulling off weird action games and sidescrolling...blagh. But I dont reccomend it. You'll die. Seriously.
Even if you can pull it off I imagine it'd be just plain better on something else. I read about something in Game Informer once called XNA.
At first it was just Xbox stuff I think, but they have a Windows Vista version.
I know it was X something. If I'm wrong there please correct me. X.x;;
And if it sucks tell me that too, in case anyone knows.
I've never heard of Multimedia Fusion but now I'm gonna go google it.
XNA Game studio's is a tool for making full on XBOX 360 Game's coding tooo much for me at the moment have to have basic's in C++

but about the SideScrolling game all you realy need to do is block off the areas u dont wanna go
create a Parralel proccess for jumping shoot ect...... make the Events(enemy's u need to dodge)

that's the easy bit now you just gotta make it look right....

for a MegaMan Styley..... rulz by the way
Hm, that must be it, though now that I think about it I remember it being called XNL at one point. I can't find anything on that now, maybe they changed the name.
But if you were to make a side scroller in RPG Maker, wouldnt it be kind of cumbersome? It's all tile based. I can't see it having very many difficult platforming elements if its all tiles, cause if you can jump enough tiles you just kind of make it automatically...And it just strikes me as sounding poor in controls.
I'm sure it can be done though. *shrugs*
Yea true it would be hard to pull it off but about the tiles there's a script that set the movement to inch by inch instead of tile by tile so that will sort that out

about the level design Ill start with the basic's o set make a standard level with to ledge' to jump on
make the GameOver event and copy n paste em onto the area's where you die.....

then make a conditional brance set x to jump 2 spaces left right up down (for all the direction's)

and remember your going to have to create at least 5 character set's for the diff action's

Im pretty sure that's all you need to do.....

Im currently sorting that out for my game.. so Ill upload a video showing how it's working....

check this out here's an early EaRLy version for the jumping bit...

I'm not comfortable with any idea that can't be expressed in the form of men's jewelry

I'd also suggest NOT doing this in RM.
It can be own in rmxp fairly easily. I remember making a mario game. You don't really need any scripts just some good ideas on eventing and a few nice tilesets. However this is a nuisence and there are scripts available. As for rm2k/2k3 I have no clue because I started with rmxp.
Yeah it CAN be done but you really shouldn't waste your time. It'd end up being really unsmooth and limited and won't be that enjoyable. I'd suggest taking a look at Game Maker or Multimedia Fusion.
This is easier in RMXP? Seems like it would be harder...
Either way, it is too hard to worry with!
It would probably better if you want to make a side scrolling game, to do it with Game maker. It's much easier that way.
