NAME CHANGE?

I'm not intending to cause any offense, but that's dumb, BM. Didn't you read the topic at all?
What I was trying to put across is that RMN at this point has an established atmosphere, member-base, and set of particular goals. It has an identity. Change for the sake of change is somewhat silly, and that identity isn't something we should so readily sacrifice. I'm not totally against a name change, but unless a suitable alternative arises, I view it as a pretty pointless gesture.
Sorry dawg, but when someone says something is dumb I call them out on it and say 'hey dawg that's dumb'. Maybe you shouldn't be so sensitive?
What I'm trying to put across is that RMN at this point has an established atmosphere, member base, etc, but that's not a static thing, that's just something we all happen to be into at this point. That's not an 'identity', and frankly that just sounds like some tooty frooty shit you just thought up. The fact of the matter is that no matter what's the most one popular program, this site was designed to be equally accessible to all game makers of any genre, engine and creed, and our name should reflect that.
So. I'm the only one who likes the fact that this page is RPGs first and other genres second (but not discouraged)?
I mean it's not like "this is not an RPG it doesn't belong here" but more "I focus mostly on RPGs and here are other people who do the same."
To be honest I'm primarily an RPG maker. When I make games I think in RPG-terms. To me this page is interesting because of the RPG-focus (well actually it's all nostalgic reasons...). If this was a more general game making site I'd probably be less interested or interested in a completely different way.
I think rpgmaker.net is a good name and to me it is a brand name. Of course it's sad that the brand name is wasted on something that might not want to be associated with RPGs...

I vote ar-em-en. It's free. ^.^ (though it's a bit gender-specific 'aremen')
Games galore!
The making!
Create a game!
^ They sound like store names or something -.- ^
Creationification.
I like that one best. ^.^
Seriously though - 'A rose by any other name...'

Or even... Roman-Mongoloid Nation.
please................. give me credit for my awful irc jokes :'(
author=Shinan link=topic=2831.msg54372#msg54372 date=1231319597I have never said I didn't like the site's focus on RPGs. It's my favorite genre, after all, and what I expect to see on the site. You are misreading my statements. I am worried about the association with the RPG Maker series of software. That's it.

I wonder how many people stumbled onto this site because they were looking for RPG Maker...?
With good SEO we could make 'em stumble in here even if they searched for "popular seafood restaurants california". RMN is already the first non-corporate site in Google search, so if there's a name change just leave that domain name pointing here. RPG Maker enthusiasts should still find their way... to the promised land...

This is truly tiddly winks here but I have always taken the name "RPG Maker" used in the URL to mean "one who makes RPGs" and not to be exclusive to rm2k or whatever the fuck specific engine. Hence I am totally fine with the current URL.
I'm actually fine if you guys decide to go either way. Keeping it the same or changing it. I just hope it's still remains the same in essence.
However, if you guys decide to change the name, you'd probably end up having to take "RPG" out of the URL if you want the site's focus to be game-making in general. Although, that's just my opinion.

Problem is rmn.net is some german site, and rmn.com is parked.
I tried to purchase RMN.com but the guy never got back to me.

This is actually want it is about - the original RPGmaker.net didn't even have the RPG Maker series at first -- its goal was to put the spotlight on alternative engines.
RPGmaker.net is a premium type domain and excellent brand, and it would be silly for us to change it. I know we have looked into after being typecasted as a RPG Maker only website by certain other sites (and by giddy rm2k/3 users who refuse to even install the RMVX RTP yet have the RM2K RTP 1.3 installed).
I am not really a fan of the RMN branding, I think it's a terrible kneejerk reaction to being labeled a RPG Maker website, but hey, I just log in here.

I think we were quoted $50,000 USD for the RMN.com. I love you guys, but that is almost what my base salary is for an entire year. :)

What a dong. Who else is going to buy RMN.com? He could probably be haggled down to something reasonable. :-\
Domain name squatters do not haggle. They will either soon get paid a princely sum of money when someone incorporates REAL MEN NETWORK, or they will continue to pay the $6.95 yearly fee until someone thinks of something else that can make use of the domain and have the cold, hard cash to make it theirs.
Three letters mainline domains are never cheap.

author=Holbert link=topic=2831.msg55055#msg55055 date=1231646981It is not as though any of us are prone to that or anything.

Hmph. In a few months I will be rich enough to buy that squatter and sell him.
