Not 100% sure if it goes here, but whatever.
I've decided to move on from 2k3 and I'm wondering which maker to choose:
VX or XP?!

Quick i need a good comparison of both. Pros and cons etc.
I can't really compare the two, as I've never used XP, but I recommend VX!!
VX is a general improvement except in a huge
with how it handles tilesets and they removed any built in way of setting the battle background.

If you can stand the tilesets, I'd say go with VX. Download the demo for both and give them a quick spin.
What's wrong with VX's tilesets?

Unlike, 2k, 2k3, and XP where you can import loads and loads of chipsets/tilesets. In VX, I think you're stuck with just one set of tilesets.
Ahh. That's lame. Well, that just cemented it for me. I like my tile diversity, so I'm going with XP. Thanks everyone.

That's silly, I'm sure you can import more resources if you wanted to. I had a go on a trail version but I didn't see if that was the case though.

I'm going with VX unless what Jakester said is true.
there are different tile sets available for VX that the game will allow you to import into your game

also there is a way to change the battle backgrounds, not quite sure what it is but if you go to the VX forums and ask they'll tell you

VX allows you to change almost everything through scripting or its resource management feature, plus I hear its much easier to use then XP

I'd say go with VX, but if you're really not sure then download both and pay for the one you like better

so what Jakester said is false. I believe there is even a script that allows you to import as many tile sets as you want, again I just heard about it on the VX forums, you'll need to go there to find the script
For those asking about the VX Tilesets here is how it works:

You only ever have ONE SET TO WORK WITH, no exceptions. However, what you can do is edit the image, and put in your own stuff. The tileset consists of five tabs: ABCDE

A: This tab is basically the map layout. All of your walls, terrain, and other such things are here.

B: This tab contains town items, like signs and windows for buildings.

C: This tab contains the items used for indoor maps, like stairs and beds.

D: This tab contains items for dungeons. Things like jagged rocks, crystals, pillars, and the like.

E: This tab is left blank. This way, if you just want to incorperate items into the RTP, you are free to do so.

Seriously, VX is still amazing. Also, the RTP ROCKS, so you don't need to have custom stuff. If you want custom stuff, all you need to do is edit the image, and put it in.

USE VX!
i've never used XP or VX but it seems that VX seems to be the better one.
Based on the fact that it's newer?

Based on the fact that it's newer?

yeah pretty much. :P
Whoever designed/managed XP's tileset and mapping engine figured out that a bunch of arbitary restrictions that existed in RM95/2k(3) is incredibly retarded and removed them. Then at some point between XP and VX he quit or something because whoever did VX put arbitrary and retarded restrictions back in.
