You really ought to play Hero's Realm...
(I use a similar system, with 4 parties, in both a toggle and party switching flavors depending on where you are (some dungeons are 4 party dungeons)).

One you have to take note of if you were doing full sized (4) parties is Death condition.
If, any time during the party member adding/removing your active party has nothing but dead party members, you'll get a Game Over.
A solution to this problem is to take note of the Death condition of key members of each party (ie- leaders) and remove the Death condition, remove them LAST from the outgoing party and adding them FIRST for the incoming party. After the party switching is complete, reassert the Death conditions of those key members (if they were dead).

This is one of my Rm2k(3) beefs: You can't do atomic party operations. I (vaguely) remember that back in the 2k days if you had nobody in the starting party it'd immediately game over so in 2k3 they fixed that but they failed to take the next logical step and allow some sort of having a party of dead people on the map in the scenario that an event was changing the party.
I'm glad my game has three characters, I can slip in a fourth character who's always alive, do the party operations, then remove him again. He's pretty much my semaphore/lock.
author=Fallen-Griever link=topic=3404.msg68065#msg68065 date=1238056631You can use a screen fade I believe.
Hide/Show Screen is ugly, like switching music tracks without using fade.
Hide/Show screen I prefer for three main reasons:
1. It won't override any screen tinting (for day/night systems, dark dungeons, etc)
2. Pictures have a higher priority than screen tints. So if you have some sort of picture-Based HUD it will appear if you tint to 0/0/0 but not if you hide screen.
3. There are many more options. Try breaking out of fade in/out and mess with a few other transitions. :]
Nice tutorial regardless. ;D
