RM GAMES TO THE BIG LEAGUES??

Just had a completely random thought pop into my head and wanted to see what you guys though about it.

Basically...

What RM Games out there do you think would have a chance at becoming a full-fledged console game? And by this I mean the idea, story, characters, plot, and pretty much everything except the 2D graphics (and possibly the outdated standard RPG battle system, as in replacing it with something new).

2D graphics would naturally be replaced by 3D, unless it's like a DS game or something with intricate, custom sprites.

The immediate games that come to mind are..

The Way
Kinetic Cipher (Again)
Well, I disagree that 3D is neccessarily better than 2D, but I would expect a graphical upgrade if a game went "pro". Nor would I expect radical changes in the battle system, as that is part of the core gameplay in an RPG. Tweaks here and there, though.

I think that Legacies of Dondoran could hold it's own as a DS RPG.
While I haven't played all that many RPG maker games, I would say that Heroes Realm would do wonderfully as an SNES RPG. That, or maybe something on the DS. I could also see LOD on the DS, too.

OF COURSE YOU SAID KINETIC CIPHER
Hero's Realm's hook is that it is just like early RPGs - like a homage. Not sure how well that would play out if it were itself a commercial RPG.

However, I should make a commercial verison of the game. Seems to be all the rage now. I'd need RMVX, all new sprites, music and monster graphics, and a lot of time.

Thanks kent/eph/toast!

I wonder, though, why LoD readily makes the list of "RM games that could go pro as is", but never makes those "list your favorite RM game" lists, 95% of which are identical. Which is fine, I don't really care, it's just interestin' is all!

I second Demon Tower btw.

Hero's Realm did come out on the SNES. It was called "Dragon Quest III Reprise" :D

I would only vote KC(A) if it were done. In its current state, sadly, no. IMO there are probably 20-30 complete games that could fit this criteria, given the limits of what's actually out there on the consoles and handhelds. I mean, honestly, how many Rm* games are better than Legend of Heroes?

Boo hoo. TTHW doesn't usually make either list.

Iish, if KC(A) was finished I would buy it multiple times.
TTHW gets multiple "Hows do I does stuff in tTHW?" threads a month.
With a little bit of polishing Hero's Realm could definately be a very solid console game

This is what I meant, if it were actually finished. Why the hell would anyone sell an unfinished game.

Uh...yeah. Why wouldn't I. You remember me back in the the KC forums, I'm sure. I had the most posts.

Needless to say, I love that game.

Seconded.

Mainly what I had in my mind was this: I pictured "The Way" with a full 3D environment, Rhue looked very detailed as did the rest of the game world. I also pictured how a 3D Plunge would look (f*cking spectacular).

Take a moment...picture it. Wouldn't it be so cool? That's what spawned this topic, if only were possible though, right?

Which raises another question: Out of some the above mentioned games, would a commercial version be possible anywhere down the line. I not like "OMG IT WOULD BE SO GREAT TO SEE THIS ON THE PS3/XBOX/WII!!!!1" but I'm wondering if the possibility even exists.

Dude, way to selectively read. To quote myself:

Which is fine, I don't really care
Hero's Realm could've easily been a DQ on gba/ds or something...the game *feels* just like a DQ game...
I'm not too sure if being picked up professionally is a quality we necessarily want to associate with BEING GOOD, if Aveyond is any example. But hey!

-Hero's Realm
-Rise of the Third Power
-Grave Spirit
-Sunset Over Imdahl
-Ara Fell?
Ara Fell

Badluck must think so too, since Ara Fell : First Light will most likely be a commercial game.

(Not participating in any "which RM games are the greatest" or "which RM games would sell well if they were commercial console games" kind of thread just yet, because there are way too many RM games I haven't played yet... Wildcard, Sore Losers, Iron Gaia, Iron Gaia : Virus, Love and War, Last Scenario, Exit Fate... Hopefully I'll get around to playing them soon.)
Iron Gaia: Virus could probably make it. (or the entire saga could be a Sci-fi novel, I suppose). I hear it got a perfect 10/10 score. :)

Grave Spirit is so polished it could be sold right now.

Nobody would purchase Demon Tower. It has too much gay and not enough gore.

I will just say that if Iron Gaia (and especially Iron Gaia: Virus) was a console game it would be a first-person shooter/RPG like Deus Ex or System Shock 2 rather than a jRPG-style game.
