Please, don't let the title mislead you. I don't plan on this being a thread where personal information is given. Basically, lately, I've been feeling very alone. In school I have this great notebook where I jot down ideas for my games. PEOPLE THINK THAT'S NERDY and I lose self esteem, making me very sad. :( So the idea is...wouldn't it be cool if there were a way to meet the other people who make games/rpgs to discuss ideas and techniques? The only problem is that I don't know how to do such a thing without appearing as an online predator. If anybody's got some ideas, let me know. Also, does anybody here live in Green Bay, WI?
Not to sound snippy but it sounds like you need some friends...of the non-internet variety. Take a chance and spark up a convo with someone...and don't get scared, all relationships have to start somewhere...
Har har. I have plenty of friends. Perhaps the notebook thing was a bad illustration, as it poorly displays my current status at school. Either way, this topic isn't about my social life, it's about meeting people with the same interests as you.
I know a hot asian girl that frequents the site. Also, I heard maia was a demon in the sack. At least that's what her avatar told me.

sexy rexy?????
Ironically WIP is one of perhaps a dozen RMN members who were nerdy enough to actually plan a way to meet in life for regular gatherings/bonding sessions/gay orgies.
But of course he makes no mention of this here and makes fun of you instead.
(I am just jealous because I was left out.)
Not that I didn't have the same thought upon reading the topic name.
Anyway, I have never had much luck at meeting people with the *exact* same interests as me, but for better or worse I have a pretty forceful personality so I have this habit of kinda...transforming the interests of people I know.
I mean basically all dozen or so of my major IRL friends (or at least a majority if not all) have been meeting once a week every week for the last four years to play a LARP I created with rules I wrote set in a universe I created. And none of them knew what roleplaying was until I explained it to them, so...yeah. If your friends don't have the same interests as you, just browbeat them until they realize how awesome everything you like is.
It's terrible advice in principal but it worked for me.

And we purposely didn't invite you because you're a tool.
Although I'm personally not really too interested in meetups, is the RMN community big enough to actually start seriously considering one of these?
Nope!
Aside from which, I could never make it to one, considering I'm only 17 and live in Western Canada. Also, I think it would be awkward for the most part.

Didn't apply that logic to yourself, eh? :)
Karsuman I like your art, but it uh, doesn't really have anything to do with this topic.
I used to be near Green Bay, but have since moved.
That said...
1. Meet another kind of geek whom you overlap geekdom with, or talk to your current geek friends until you have acquired sufficient trust level.
2. Talk about game design stuff every now and then.
3. Ask friends if they are interested in game design. Even if they aren't, they may know people through the geek social network, such as it is.
4. ? ? ? ? ?
5. Profit.

Sure does. Reread the first post if necessary...even if that defeats the purpose of posting the art in the first place. -_-

WIP, is there going to be another 'fest? Because, like, I'm totally down.
The next RMN meet should totally take place in Germany. Great place to meet awesome people, I hear. Get passports already!
I should probably mention free beer as an incentive.
