WORST. GAME. EVER.

Posts

I liked Quest 64. The only thing that stopped it from being interesting was its lack of features, NPCs, sidequests, treasure hunting, interesting enemies. The core system, however, was solid, and I wish I could have been re-done with a longer dev-cycle to punch it up a bit.

I felt the same way about Ocarina of Time.

I played Bebes Kids. Actually, it was hard to play that at all. >_>

read: you were rubbish at it
Will you ever stop being funny..?

It honestly does sound like you were bad at it.
I know I'm going to hear some rants against my picks, just know that it won't change my opinion on anything.

I really do not like any of the Final Fantasy games save 6 and 8, but even still...I cannot get through any of the main Final Fantasy games without quitting from being bored. That's all, I just can't stand playing though any of the FF games like I do with the DQ games. Don't ask me why, I have little idea either. I tried to play Final Fantasy 1,2,4,5, and 6 for the GBA, but I just can't keep playing them. I get too bored with the story, and they don't interest me. Final Fantasy 7 is good, and I actually like the story, but it lost me after I left Midgar, so I stopped playing that too. Final Fantasy 8 I still play and enjoy, but it also lost my hype as it moved along. I will probably try to play and finish 6-8, but I don't think I will ever finish. Final Fantasy 9 is alright, but I still can't get though it either. I did not play 11, but I played the demo of Final Fantasy 12 with DQ8, and I like the gameplay, but that's all. I can't give more because I haven't played the real deal. And I don't think I will.

I saw 3 and 10, but not enough to like it or back my opinion up.

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

What kind of rpg maniac doesn't like final fantasy?
Any video game I get bored with is automatically the worst game ever.
What is up with the narrator? O_o

I'd like to, but what about the stories you found boring? What RPGs do you like? Can you be specific?

The worst thing about Quest 64 was the fact that you never knew which direction you were supposed to be walking in after a fight was over. So stupid... how could the developers have not noticed such a glaring fuck up.

RPGManiac, this is a thread for the "worst game ever", not just any game you find bad. On that topic though I think FF7 is complete shit. I don't even think it's just overrated, I really think it's garbage and I think that most people who claim to like it only do so because a) they feel some loyalty to the earlier (ie: better) final fantasy games or b) because they'd never played an RPG before, and FF7 was probably the first commercial RPG. In any case, this can be a different thread of some un-enlightened RPG nerd feels like challenging me since I won't drag this one down too much.

Another candidate for the worst game ever I'd say is Pac Man 2: the new adventures for the SNES. Maybe I just didn't have enough patience but I found the whole 10 minutes of it that I played to be unbearable

Why?

I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time, but I think discussion would be more interesting if we discussed WHY we don't like 'x game' instead of just saying 'X GAME IS SHIT' without any reasoning.

Also, I'm genuinely curious.
edit: posted the same thing twice because of an internet fuckup, commonly known as a "double post"

Again, so as not to hijack the thread I'll be very brief:

-incredibly silly, usually nonsensical story, mostly in the minor character-development related stuff but also some things in the main storyline (and I'm not just complaining about it being confusing, I'm genuinely complaining about it being really silly)
-badly written, sometimes unintelligible dialogue
-horribly ugly graphics that always seem awkward or out of place, and maps that are usually hellishly difficult to navigate (the second part is more important obviously..but then again I suppose you can just press select)
-very very very easy gameplay; apart from the super mega ultra bosses like Emerald weapon the game is unbelievably easy to breeze through and you pretty much never need to stop and level up.
-absolutely no uniqueness among the characters, so that they pretty much become nothing but slots for your materia (apart from the limit breaks, which make some characters clearly inferior to others (ie Cait Sith, Red XIII, Barret (if I remember correctly) all pretty much suck since their "ultimate" limit break is garbage) which is also a huge flaw)
-some other stuff I forgot.

I hope a mod splits this into a separate thread before things get stupid, since I know legions of Cloud fanboiz are going to be furious at this post
Well, I wouldn't think its thread hijacking to say WHY you feel a game is bad since it promotes actual discussion. I've never seen much FF fanboyism either from this place, so its good.

I dunno. I liked FF7. I can emphasize with everything you're saying, but I found it entertaining. The presentation was pretty cool to me. I liked Midgar, the slums, Shinra (and the concept of Shinra), the Turks, the atmosphere, the motorcycle chase, that sort of thing. It was just an entertaining ride if you just sort of clear your mind and just play without thinking too much into it.

Also, minor correction;
Barret (if I remember correctly) all pretty much suck since their "ultimate" limit break is garbage) which is also a huge flaw)

Barret, along with Cid, Cloud, and Yuffie are among the top people in the game, because they have multi hit Limits which allow them to hit for 5000-9999 damage more than a dozen times or so.
Deadly Towers

Why yes I love being able to move at a speed that makes it hard to impossible to avoid enemies while only being able to throw a sword that moves marginally faster than I walk that does dick all damage to anything. Plus if I miss I need to wait for the sword to get off screen before I can throw another! Nevermind the god damn bats which can stunlock you to death since anything and everything will cut your starting health to ribbons without any armor right at the start of the game. Well by todays standards its an RPG since you can upgrade your shit to do more damage and not die as quickly. Too bad that the stores where you can actually buy this shit are in dungeons scattered across the world with invisible entrances! These dungeons are about fifty+ rooms arranged in a grid that endlessly loop where each room is the same as every other room besides color pallette, enemies, and exits. Some of these rooms are the stores where you can spend your hard grinded ludder/cash to not suck as much. Now there's the challenge of getting out of the dungeon. iirc The exit is a star on the ground, except that dungeons have about half a dozen stars and only one gets you out of the dungeon. Alternatively you can die and lose all your ludder which is generally quicker including the regrind for cash especially when the late game items cost you most of the maximum ludder you can carry.

The objective of the game is to climb the seven deadly towers and get the bell from them, guarded by a boss, and burn them in some flame before facing the final boss. The only way to have a chance of doing this is to figure out what bosses you can actually kill, usually by finding a place where they can't hit you while you hit them. Also assuming you can make it to the boss because from where you respawn you need to reach the tower again across the world, then you're on the path to the tower on a seperate map, then there's actually climbing the tower. I'd like to bring up stunlock deaths and how you can only throw one sword slowly for piss damage at a time and how you have to beat some towers to unlock better gear. It's the Megaman difficulty curve taken a few steps further: You will get your ass kicked a lot at the start because you're new to the game and everything you have sucks balls. By the end of the game you can finally stop completely sucking since the game doesn't do much to make itself harder while the player can actually throw swords that can kill that god damn bat in two hits instead of six and missing wasn't a chance at dying.

But wait! Even if you buy the best gear the last boss can still go to town on your ass! You see there's optional legendary equipment available from the start of the game. Like all good legendary gear you have to find it and true in nature with this game its all hidden in secret areas like 'parallel zones' or 'secret rooms' which have invisible entrances! These ones are in the towers so they're harder to get to than shops and there's only one hidden entrance per secret item unlike shops where there are a handful of dungeons filled with three or four shops; usually the same ones too. Plus you can lose access to the legendary items as the game progresses: The towers disappear when you burn the bell from the tower! So to find the hidden areas where the legendary items are you need to avoid burning bells for the towers until you can find all the invisible entrances to where they are located and hope none of them take you to a dungeon (I don't think any do but I wouldn't put it past this game) or else you'll permenantly lose the best stuff in the game. Once you find where the legendary equipment is you just have to pick it up while not getting killed by the enemies in these areas which includes a small room filled with a score of bats that can stunlock you to death the instant you enter. Then you have to get out but thankfully you can just die and keep your item instead of looking for an invisible exit. Thankfully one of the legendary items lets you, get this, have two swords on the screen simultaneously!

So the best way to play the game is to get the legendary equipment as soon as possible by knowing where they are and not getting killed while trying to get them and not buring any bells until you found all of the legendary items in a tower while ignoring any of the gear in the shops except potions and scrolls. Intuitive, isn't it? Oh, and every time you spawn you always start with 100 health no matter what your max is. I hope you enjoy grinding for health drops!

Fuck Deadly Towers

Sorry, I thought Barret's was another "do 9999 damage to all enemies" limit break - I only have a vague memory of this because I never played with him in my party, but my brother did.
I dunno, I really enjoyed the story of FF7. Although I will admit that it was a little silly towards the end. Also, the dialogue was excellent. I can't understand why you'd have any qualms with it.
Your memories might be clouded by your love of the game + its age. Like most FF games, the dialogue is in the bad-mediocre range (though that may be a result of the bad localization, too).

Childhood favorites are like that a lot. A lot of people worship FF4/FF6 but they aren't 'magical' for me because I didn't play them when I was a kid.
I think some of the Wii shovelware might be in strong competition for this. Along with some of the trash you'd see on the PS1.
