WoW has neither
a) action
b) roleplaying

also, it is not a
c) game

WoW is
d) RETARDED

Lolx. I think an Action RPG is like Secret of Mana or Brave Fencer Musashi, even though I'm normally not allowed to speak those words in my house (kidding, doesn't apply to SoM).

Would you consider the Elder Scrolls games to be ARPGs, though? I mean, I can imagine that, but it seems a little more RPG-ish than most ARPGs. I don't know.
Any RPG where you have to actually swing your sword rather than selecting Attack from a menu pretty much sums it up for me. Twitchy mini-games don't count as "action".

Core gameplay for RPGs is in the battles, so that's where the action would have to be to be considered an Action RPG.

I feel the same way! I don't see much difference between an action RPG and one of the zelda games or an ABS.

EDIT: I don't know how this double post happened.
Well you see, the key part is RPG. Electronic RPGs have stats. Zelda does not.
Well in that case, World of Warcraft is definitely it! It has stats, it is a RPG and it is more or less hack and slash depending on the class you choose. Even though it is an Online game how can you forget that it is also a RPG as well?

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

WoW was a regular ATB system with free movement for the whole 5 minutes I played it.

I choose e) all of the above. Then again, the majority of my friends would disagree. Ugh...
EDIT: Delete this post. Blame it on the buggy server.

Actually F-G it wasn't the URL tag so much as the shitty URL you gave it!
Zelda has invisible stats. You know how much 'damage' you do in relation to enemies, and how much Health you have. Enemies do a set amount of damage (1/2 heart, 1 heart, etc) which equates to their attack power.

Your sword usually does more damage as it's upgraded; 1, 2, and 3, with the "shot" being 1 damage at all times.

You have a magic meter which depletes and is refilled, etc. You have a limited carrying capacity for most weapons that you can increase over time as well.

I'd say Zelda has plenty of stats, they just aren't all "Strength" and "Agility" like most other RPGs, and aren't listed in a stat-page, instead they're ones you see or know through play, much better than you know the STR stat for your characters in a standard RPG. :)

I'd consider an "Action" RPG just be one that isn't turn-based. I would still consider ATB to be turn-based, heck it is usually called "Active Turn Battle."
