WHAT ABOUT A NEWBIE IRRITATES YOU?
Posts
Now I know I am new here and actually had a good time in these forums, but I was wondering what some things about a newbie irritates you. For example, maybe a newbie doesn't know the rules for a week or so and posts his game on the general topic. Will that irritate you?
When people join up and say how active they're going to be, and after that never post or upload anything at all. Not that they have any obligation to, some people join up just to browse the games, but hey, it would be nice to see more people follow through on the 'Can't wait to be active'! thing.

Yeah, I think I said something about being active on my welcome topic... (Don't look at my m-score)
Makerscore has nothing to do with being active. Just post occasionally, like you have been doing, and you're fine.
Summary: If I recognize your avatar, you're good.

Was this topic in reference to the "I can't figure out how to make a game, lol" thread?
Maybe....
Seriously though, I was just wondering what you guys thought..
Newbies almost never bother me
I don't really take things all that seriously so its pretty hard to annoy me. The only thing that's been known to do it is two regulars angrily arguing back and forth
baically I hail from a forum where spamming/trolling is the norm, so yeah.

GameFAQs?
The thing about newbies that annoy me is stupidity. It's pretty simple really. Newbies who don't understand the concept of a Help File or Manual. Or even a simple Google search (or in some cases a forum search)
Another thing about newbies I dislike are newbies that think they are the shit. Let's face it: You're not the shit. It's that simple.
Occasionally poor spelling or grammar also annoys me. But usually only if it's combined with either stupidity or a sense of superiority.
Oh yeah, a minor thing about them newbies that also annoys me is semi-spamming newbies. You know the kind that necroposts in a bunch of topics on his/her first couple of days on the forum but doesn't really contribute much to the old topic.
And actually reading the first post now because I don't read posts apparently (That's also something about newbies that annoy me) are those that don't bother to read up on the important stuff. Such as stickied topics that say stuff like "READ THIS FIRST" "IF YOU'RE A NOOB READ THIS FAQ" usually in giant letters of giganticness.
Yeah. Newbies annoy me. However newbies that don't fall into these categories but instead write some posts, perhaps lurk for a while in order to get a feel for the place (perhaps have lurked before registering once he/she reads something that is important enough to post in). I like those. Seriously. But even though I am a grumpy newbie-hater don't be discouraged. I'm sure there are people who can put up with you.
Just don't be a fucking idiot.

Not to be Mr. Devil's Advocate here but that is a massive generalization that is only half true.
I wrote newbies THAT think they are the shit. In fact looking at your quote I thought I had missed a word but then when I went up to edit my post the "that" was already there!
And I'll say this. Every newbie that think he/she is the shit is not. That's not a generalization, that's hard cold fact.

but but.. I am the shit.. : (
I am VERY surprised I have not been specifically mentioned in this topic. :P
To be honest, the only thing that bothers me is bad spelling/grammar.
I'm guilty of this too, but I (usually) try to correct it if I catch it.
But I mostly try to help newbies, because you never know which one will re-invent the wheel.
Sometimes they just need a little help finding a rock and learning how to use a chisel. :)

i come from somewhere where i took part in it, and it was the norm!
Anyways, yeah, basically I agree with Shinan actually. I've been around this community 2 years now, around when there was kind of an influx of members... but I've been registered at other sites like GW for 4+ years. There, I actually lurked for a few years first, getting a sort of feel for the community, so no one really called me out on being a newbie. I don't think I've ever been called one. People SHOULD lurk for a while first, so they know the community and the people first, before they post their stupid crap.
Also older users don't really like to be bothered by the same stuff over and over again by new newbies (halp how do i use rpgmakers) and most of us just want to.... make dem gams.

Don't you feel awesome when you teach someone something new?
It's a great feeling to be able say, "Hey, I helped him learn that." Wouldn't you agree?

No, because 90% of the time the questions newbies ask are solvable with google or the help file. It gets old. When people ask legitimate questions, they typically aren't even newbies.
And yes, you're still a newbie too.
post=96892I'm quite aware. :)
And yes, you're still a newbie too.
Also, sometimes just reading a manual/help file is a hard way to learn.
They aren't always "user friendly".
But I understand your point. If you've been making games for years, and been hearing the same questions, it must get old.
Thats why I copy+paste common fixes to a text doc on my desktop. (Once I figure out what they are, that is.) :P
So I just double click, highlight, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V.
I don't think that being identified as a "newbie" actually has a lot to do with how much time you've spent in the community or making amateur games. It has more to do with a certain personality type that really grates on people. The type that loves to ask questions, is not particularly bright, and has no sense of humility. A generally immature person maybe?
