FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS
Posts
Firstly, this game is absolutely WONDERFUL on the Wii, I'm burning through it at one hell of a rate and loving every second of it - BUT I am pretty sure that in saving Rydia's story it's just erased and saved over my supped up characters from the main game - BALLS!
Extremely playable anda mere 800 wii points to get the first 3 stories, with subsequent 'episodes' only 300 each. But be warned - I saved over my data by accident without thinking, you need to think of each story as a seperate game when you change characters around.
I really like the game, but you'll have to buy Porom's quest or you'll miss something when the story in the main game takes a twist :/
This is basically no different with fallout 3 has been doing, dinging you full price for an unfinished game and then paying for another installment of the actual game once it's completed. Smart for them to do so, dumb for us for buying that.
You mean like DLC's? DLC's are awesome son, don't know what you're talkin' about. They can only fit so much in one game at a time.
I try not to buy DLC. They eventually made the Resistance: Fall of Man DLC free and this has made me foolishly optimistic. I want to see if any more companies follow suit once people have stopped buying the old stuff.
On topic: bought a while ago, haven't played yet, need to finish IV first. Stupid impulse purchase. Haven't really heard good things but like the concept nevertheless. Will at least play the first half, eventually.
edit:
(Other games probably do this but Disgaea 3 is the only one I'm aware of.)

post=96936Unless we're talking Disgaea 3. IIRC, that actually had some of the DLC characters on the disc already and made you pay just to unlock them. : (

Yeah developers hide things on the disc all the time now. I think its bullshit to be honest, if it's an unlockable, let us unlock it during play.
On the note of this game, I'm not too interested. Although I think every FF game could stand to have a spinoff title containing more of the story. Problem is I never liked FF4, and I sold my Wii.
Speaking of hiding things on the disc, I wonder if anyone has found a way to 'crack' that stuff yet?

Yeah so... this game is pretty terrible; which is confusing because the FF4 DS remake was actually pretty decent for what the remake team had to work with. It looks and reads like a bad RMVX fan game; and that's honestly what I thought it was at first.
I have been holding out until this is released for some sort of portable platform in the US . . . and when the whole thing is released. I think it's probably a wonderful cell phone game, but is probably not an exceptional console game.
The final episode is out now I believe
That said, I agree with Nightblade; there is nothing about this that would make me want to spend money on it. Plus the whole thing costs 3400 points and going 100 points = 1USD, I spent less on FF4DS
For the curious, here's the episode list:

That isn't as bad as the plot description from Wikipedia:

Following the events of the original Final Fantasy IV, the second moon leaves the Blue Planet's orbit and there is a period of peace as Damcyan, Eblan, and the Village of Mist are rebuilt, while the Kingdom of Baron comes under the rule of Cecil and his wife, Rosa. However, 17 years later, the second moon has reappeared in the sky, much closer to the planet than it was years ago, and the unchanging Crystals begin to emit a soft light; however, the meaning behind these events remains unknown.
The game revolves around Ceodore (???? Seodoa?), a young man who is the son of Cecil Harvey and Rosa Farrell, two of the protagonists from the original, both of whom return along with most of the other main cast members and a number of entirely new characters. Amongst these new additions to the cast are the Hooded Man (??? Nazo no Otoko?, lit. "Mysterious Man"), a wandering swordsman enshrouded in purple robes who is strangely familiar with Cecil's previous adventure, and the Mysterious Woman (???? Nazo no Sh?jo?), a female antagonist able to summon Eidolons, who attacks the kingdoms in search of the Crystals.
The storyline of the game unfolds through episodic chapters, released roughly once a month, each primarily focused on a specific character. These chapters utilize foreshadowing, cliffhangers, flashbacks, and a nonlinear narrative structure to build the world setting and both explore and expand upon the mysterious events befalling the Blue Planet.
