GAME SUBMISSION: ENGINE

I'd like to add my game to the database but I can't because my game is a custom map based off of Warcraft 3 FT. Just because it's a custom map and not a full game doesn't mean that my game is worthless, though. Look at maps like Defense of the Ancients. It's just a single WC3FT map but it has so much depth and popularity that it's being played at ESWC 2008.
So my suggestion is this: in the game submission page, could you add a new category of "Other" or something? I don't think it'd require too much effort and it opens up your game database to a lot of other things, such as games created using real languages and APIs rather than limiting the database to GCE games.

I'm not sure if this is outside the scope of what our site covers or not... I will confer with WIP and we'll make a decision. We are very open to games made with Visual Basic, C++, etc though that is not reflected on the submissions page currently. The only thing holding up your submission would be that it was a map edit/mod and not a standalone game. We'll see what we can do.
Potential advantage: WIP is a huge WC3 fan.

From my initial thoughts, I wouldn't consider DOTA something eligible for the site. A game made in its own language or something else would be fair game.
I'd personally love to see an "Other" category, mainly because I'm planning on doing some things in Ren'Py (which is a Python-based game maker for visual novels and its ilk), and there's no category that's close. "Other" would allow for something like that.
I don't know of anything I would contribute to the "other" category, but it is still a good idea to have it there. I have recently been looking into "FPS Creator" and I'm downloading a demo right now. Whether that fits into the rpg category or not (obviously, in most cases, it doesn't) I wouldn't mind sharing some of those games (most likely, I would share them off site, qjuite frankly, I Don't even know where this is going...)
author=trance2 link=topic=502.msg6833#msg6833 date=1198688832I second this, because I believe we need a catch-all option.
