TARDIS DOES PHOTOGRAPHY TOO!

:P that's actuallya littlepretty offensive. i did not say you could use my photo. my photography is not stock photography, it's art. think of it this way- if you spent a long time drawing something, then i came along with a big red sharpie and drew something else on top of your completed drawing, how would you feel?
i'm don't want to devolve this into name-calling and whatnot, but let me just say this makes you look like an asshole.
To be honest tardis, I feel you are greatly overreacting to the situation. Most of the people who post such topics here do so for fun, and do not mind anyone making a mockery of their work (if in good taste). I often photoshop images which I find rather neat/creative, and in all my time of doing it, no one has ever told me 'This is my image, fuck off'.
The whole 'Red sharpie' thing was rather exaggerated, and in my opinion, made you look like an asshole. I took an image, and did something with it which I thought looked neat. I posted it simply for the sake of fun, and you compare it to someone coloring all over a piece of art with a sharpie. Thanks.
If you are asking how I would feel in this situation, I really wouldn't mind. If I did, I would place something in the first post about it, or I would never post it at all. As an example, I recently released a small techno song here, and at another community. A member took this song, and claimed it 'needed more cowbell'. They edited the entire song, but I laughed my ass off. I didn't care at all (I uploaded the song here)
So please, add something to your posts claiming that this is /your/ art, and that you do not want others editing it. Otherwise, stop talking about how much of a disrespectful asshole I am for enjoying your image.
@myersguy:
if you see this as me overreacting, you have decidedly never seen me overreact. it's my art, and i don't appreciate you using it the way you did. i might look like an asshole, but i do legally have the right to say 'hey dude, don't do that. i made this, don't fuck with it.'
i never asked how you might feel in this situation, and while i respect that you might handle it differently with concern to your own art, that's not how i feel about mine. for once in your charmed existance, someone is telling you "this is my image, fuck off," and that someone is myself. i don't mean it in a mean way, nor do i intend any offense to you and yours, just please, kindly fuck off and don't edit my photos without permission.
sorry if i ruined your perfect little world, but let's look at a real world example, if go to someone's deviantart page, take one of their photos (without permission), edit it a little in photoshop, and post it on your deviantart page (again, without their permission), that's called art theft. even if you credit the original artist, you're still essentially stealing. granted, that is a slightly bigger example than can be applied to this, but the TL;DR of everything is "please don't screw with my art, bro. i don't appreciate it."

@myersguy: I think it was because you added a LENS FLARE. I mean, that's disgusting in it's own right. :/
Good job Tardis! <3

I'm sorry, I don't really think the way tardis reacted made him look like an asshole, and looking at some reactions, I don't think anyone else got that vibe either. Even though people make topics for fun (WelpBox), there are a lot of serious artists in this community (including myself) who really wouldn't appreciate someone taking their art and editing it, especially in a manner like the way you did it, which basically said "I took your art and made it better." I know YDS would be pretty pissed if you took some clips of her singing and edited it together to make a "better version." And also, the cowbell thing is a completely irrelevant example, as the cowbell is a well-known joke. Doing that is pretty blatant "lol needs more cowbell" joke.
If someone took a finished drawing I had taken care to sketch, and drew on it saying "Oh look, my version of your art is better," I'd be pretty pissed.
Another example that I think is pertinent. I've practiced magic tricks and sleight of hand with card tricks on and off for a while. If I was performing a trick, and I did it nicely and generated a positive response from whoever I was doing it too, and then someone else who knew the same trick came along and tried to perform it better than me to the same person, I'd probably say, "get out of here, asshole."
And c'mon, the sun doesn't even look like that.
I suppose I am simply fueling flames, but here we go:
To say that you are not overreacting is a little bit ridiculous. The word defined by the free online dictionary being "To react with unnecessary or inappropriate force, emotional display, or violence."
Take it easy, and learn to argue in a calm state. This is the internet. And please, take more photos.
post=121504I am entirely ok with this. However, saying that I look like an asshole for something like this is a bit far. Simply saying "Hey myers, i would appreciate if asked me before using my images, would you mind taking that down" would have sufficed.

post=121504Again, where is this flaming and sarcasm warranted? Why do you feel the need to attack me for unintentionally bothering you?

nice job sound biting me. :) also, learn to discern rhetorical questions.
yeah, uh has a point. i am a massive cuntburger.

guys can we just agree that tardis is an asshole regardless of whether or not he overrreacted

Missed Azn's post.
In no way was i trying to portray my version better than tardis', and I'm sorry if it came off that way. The cowbell was still relevant, as it is still the same idea. The fact that it is a common joke doesn't change that someone came and edited a piece of art and made a mockery of it. If you still believe so, imagine if I had made the boat shooping the mountains, or simply drew penises all over the picture. People do this as a joke /all/ the time, does this mean tardis would be ok with it?
TL:DR, I never intended to come off as 'Hey, look how better I make stuff look".

Myers: It's a life lesson.
The gist of the issue here is that serious artists take pride in their work, and it's typically accepted as common sense that changing these works and re-displaying them is distasteful.
You didn't pick up on that, and that's fine; not everyone automatically subscribes to society's unspoken rules. It wasn't your intention to insult Tardis, but his reaction is really quite understandable. It's just something to keep in mind for future reference.
Something else, too: if you had perhaps apologized upon noticing tardis taking offense instead of trying to defend what you did, tardis would have likely apologized in turn for reacting the way he did.
We live, we learn, we move on.
