STEAM: AND WHY YOU SHOULD GET IT RIGHT NOW.
Posts
Team Fortress 2. Steam. RMN. United in an unholy three way polygamous matrimony.
So I hear a lot of you like games.

-What is Steam?
Wikipedia can answer this better than I can.
Basically in a layman nutshell, it's a digital distribution utility that allows users to download games, organize friends and groups, link up multiplayer, and their related media such as videos and updates to said games.

-Okay I got it. Now what? I want to play games with you guys, what game should I play?
A lot! Some of the most popular ones are Dragon Age, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, and Borderlands. Other RMNers will probably post in this topic too about a game they like to play as well! For the sake of simplicity (and since a lot of people have it) the game I'm going to focus this topic on is...

-What is Team Fortress 2?
Team Fortress 2 is only one of the best multiplayer FPSs around! With a universally high rating by virtually all the gaming community, the regularly updated, class based, highly accessible, and incredibly active TF2 community continues to get new players and attract the old ones every day. Check out their site and wiki here.

-How do I get it?
First, download Steam as outlined above. Then, wait until everyone is gone and steal 19.99 from your mothers purse. More accurately, make sure you have 19.99 on a credit or debit or a Paypal account, because Steam is digital distribution, so that means you can buy the game online and it downloads it to your computer. Cheaper than other means of entertainment, such as whores or cocaine.
-Okay I got it now what? How do I play with everyone from RMN?
While you're more than welcome to make friends, join groups, and track down online RMNers on your own, the fastest way to actually get in a game and find your fellow RMN friends would be to join our group!
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rmnet
With Steam groups, we can organize events, games, link up with each other, add each other to our friends list, and all sorts of goodies. And it's not just limited to TF2! Want to organize a game of Borderlands or Left 4 Dead? Same thing applies!
--SO NOW WHAT
JOIN UP AND PLAY. If everyone is down for it, I can schedule a get together for all of us to play some TF2 for a date sometime this month!
Also, in light of the fact that usernames on RMN and Steam are likely to differ, everyone please post their Steam user page to keep track of each other, and for new members to find us.

-What is Steam?
Wikipedia can answer this better than I can.
Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute a large number of games and related media entirely over the internet, from small independent efforts to larger, more popular games.
As of November 7, 2009, 955 games are available on Steam, and as of February 18, 2009, there are over 20 million user accounts according to Valve. Many major publishers are on Steam, including Electronic Arts, Activision, THQ, Sega, Codemasters, LucasArts, Ubisoft and 2K Games.

is my steam profile. Also perhaps we can even go for a per weekend sort of thing if TF2 gets popular here.

TF2 doesn't run smoothly on my laptop, so I think I'll sit out.
However, I'm down for Age of Empires 2 if anyone wants to play. (I can help set up too.)

What's your Steam ID page?
Another nice point for Steam is its occasional deals. See that TF2 thread for $2.50 for one example. Hell I actually used Steam to buy Mass Effect because it hit $20 on Steam while the local stores were still (near )full price. If you like to save money Steam is decent and you don't even have to go hunting for deals!
Also most developers actually get the money they deserve! Though I'm not sure if they get absolutely 100% profit or not.
Oh yeah, I only made a Steam account so he could buy me Half Life. And then I never really used it again, except I bought 3 games with my award money from some contest.
so there :(

I'm Euro though. And I guess there's usually lag when comparing Euros and Americas, so I hope there's enough interest so that both euros and americas can play :)

Copied this from the group page. Keep it in mind.
You don't have to be a member of RMN to be in our multiplayer group! So if you have a few rad friends you think would be awesome to play with us, by all means invite them to the group! While you're at it, you should also invite them to the site!
Audiosurf rocks.
Team Fortress would rock too were I not abysmally bad at it.

One of the things I found was that TF2 was pretty fun even though I was/am abysmally bad at it.
