Creating a treasure chest (RPG Maker 2003) Topic

I'm trying to make a treasure chest but when i do it keeps giving my characters the items over and over every time i go to it.

How do I make the event happen only once without the chest dissipearing?

Make a switch. Turn on a switch on the first page, then make a second page for the chest with the "open" graphic for it. Set the page condition to the switch that you turned on at the first page.

Example:
Page 1:
"Alex: I found 100 gold"
add 100 gold
turn switch "chest" ON

Page 2: (condition switch chest is ON)
"Alex: this chest is empty :("

I really wish you hadn't even answered this question. This is a ridiculous post. There have got to be, what, fifty thousand tutorials on this specific subject? Cripes.

edit: Seriously I don't care if I sound like a dick here this is just lazy. This tutorial is almost impossible NOT to find.

Kaempfer for one I looked through the tutorials for RPG Maker 2003.

Two, I couldn't find what I was looking for so I asked

Three, I found Mr. Nemo's advice helpful, not stupid

Four I'm a newbie here so plz don't be nasty to me.

Meh, we were all there once.

Also, Google Zorn's RM2k Tool, I can't remember everything it had, but I'm certain a tut for chest was on there along with some other stuff.

Yeah, maybe we need a tutorial for finding tutorials or a stickied post with links to certain tutorials. Also, check out RMT: HERE!.
